I think the people of Scotland are wise enough to realise that independence is not a good thing for Scotland.
Right now they are gaining in the Self Rule department, they will soon control every decision important to themselves without having to leave the United Kingdom to do so.
They would lose the right of travel and work within the EU instantly since as an independant Nation they would not be part of the EU unless they successfully applied to join it and that would not be a foregone conclusion, Scottish Nationals would need work permits and visas to visit all EU countries including England.
There are so many things they could lose by being independant but so little to gain, within 10 years they will control every aspect of thier Nations daily occurences without having to consult with Whitehall or an English Parliament why do they need independence.
What will they do with all the returning Military personnel who could not serve in a foreign Navy, Army, Airforce ? will they create thier own forces, who will pay them, who will house them, who will equip them ?
Will Scottish people living abroad lose thier British Passport Holders status and have to apply for a Scottish passport, will they be allowed to remain abroad (including those in the remaining UK of England, Wales and Northern Ireland ?
Have they thought this through ?
Scotland is a great nation and one that it has been Englands priviledge to be so closely linked with for centuries, I hope they stay with us but have no probem with them running thier own laws, taxes and expenses with thier own government, let us hope they think the same.
Would Scottish independance mean that there would be no Scottish MP's in the ENGLISH parliament smile
i would imagine the sales of scotch whiskey worldwide would be almost as much as the oil out of the north sea wink
I don't think it would mean nobody of Scottish birth in the House of Commons, after all to qualify for the new Police Commissioners position in towns the criteria of birth is that you must be registered to vote in the UK, and be a from an EU state, so it would not matter if you were Lithuanian or Scottish you could still hold a position of high office in the UK.
Who spoke of democracy? Well there is a laugh just in that sentence.
I would rather Scotland and come to think of it Wales as well, vote for independence and try and go it alone. They already have their own assemblies, so see if they can indeed manage on their own. Somehow I do not think they can. For me I would like to see a completely independent England. Free from any Scots or Welsh or Irish. I am sure that England would manage fantastically well without the rest hanging onto our coat tails.
Oh and btw, I think Scotland knows only too well which side it's bread is buttered on. The fantasy of being independent, is not the same as reality and reality is the real world and I think Scotland will not vote to be independent.

I have long held the opinion that Offa's and Hadrian's wall should be rebuilt smile.
Rebuilding the latter would at least keep all you Southeners out of Northumberland wink
