Ah so you feel you have done your bit, only because you have used a plane once in a year?
If you really wanted to do something, get a bicycle. wink
No seriously.....what is the other form of transport you are using? Is it another enviromental killer, like a car perhaps? rolleyes

No... I didn't say like I feel that I've done my bit, far from it. rolleyes Essex asked for my views on air travel and I gave them.
By reducing my flight consumption, I do, however, feel like I've done something very small to help and I continue to reduce my air travel.
For the record, I already have a bicycle and I walk to work and home every day instead of using the bus.
It's nice to see that once more you can make assumptions when you don't know me at all. By the same token I wonder if Gaunty had suggested you flick your switch whether you'd have had a different opinion. Hmmmm... now is that an assumption on my part or a foregone conclusion?! wink
Not once in this thread (or anywhere else for that matter) have I said that I don't contribute to the problem. All I'm saying is that raising awareness is never a bad thing.
If you'd like to discuss my travel habits further then I'd be happy to do so via PM and allow everyone else to continue flicking switches rather than bickering for the sake of it.

it makes a statement and raises awareness. Climate change affects everyone, it makes sense for us all to be aware.

So what are your viewpoints on air travel?
My viewpoints on air travel are that it's something most of us do. We're all hypocrites as we all contribute to climate change in one way or another.
However, I've taken only one flight in the last 12 months compared to the previous year and chosen to use other methods of transport instead.
You know what... trying to do something good for all the right reasons sometimes isn't worth the time or the effort.
Immediately after 9/11 most commercial flights were grounded, and during this period, it was suggested that temperatures actually rose.
Thas because there is a lag in the way climate change is increasing. so the increase that continued is due to past carbon usage.

Interesting reading!

Sorry Dirty, you have made your position more than crystal clear. wink
You cannot have it both ways here. I was only picking up on your comment regarding air travel because if you fly once, then you are just as guilty as somebody that travels 10 times.
Planes are well known to be the greatest polluters, or did you HAVE to take that plane journey? :P :P
My pm box is also open anytime you fancy a chat, and a sarnie.

Oh, I dunno. Could be fun feeling your way in the dark, with the right company
I wonder if I've got time to arrange a Pussy Posse meet that night? innocent
DG, admitting you're not perfect but are prepared to do something is shedloads better than being imperfect and not giving a shit.
And anyway, I have one of these:

Thank you Witchy! kiss
I'll find a use for that after you've flicked my switch! :rascal:
I've never owned a car, I've only ever been on a plane twice (there & back) that doesn't mean I am environmentally friendly
We usually take the ferry for holidays abroad and I use public transport  ya know its not all that bad :lol2:
BUT Dek has a company car that does many many miles and he also flies many times a year, that's his job, He would rather avoid airports like the plague if he could
And if knocking lights of for an hour can raise awareness then great!! If you don't wanna get involved then don't If you do then do!!

Can't they come down here and be busy instead? wink
So that's a lovely candle-lit evening sorted. biggrin Can I have the radio on?
I am fairly anal about electricity/gas use anyway. Lights are only on in rooms with humans in. Central heating is on 2 hours a day (low) and water is only on as and when needed for baths. I can't afford foreign holidays anyway and try to minimise my petrol use by doing the shopping on the way home from work - and you only know how miserable that is if you've tried it.
So I reckon I'm doing my bit - hand in hand with saving my own costs.

This report is quite informative though I have watched a few programmes that outline it better in pictures.
