It's not political, it's not pink and fluffy but it's worth taking part in because it involves everyone.
WWF Earth Hour
Some 934 cities from 80 countries have already signed up. In addition, a great number of iconic landmarks will be plunged into darkness, including Nelson’s Column, the Forth Bridge, the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, the Eiffel Tower, Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Table Mountain in Cape Town and Sydney Opera House. The London Eye, too, will be dimmed for the hour.

What the heck is this going to achieve? dunno
I use low energy bulbs, I recycle my rubbish. I bloody will not be turning me lights off for an hour as well.
It serves no useful purpose whatsoever, that I can see.
Nice to see you two agreeing on something! wink

Well my laptop battery lasts for two hours, and if I press Function and Page up then a little light appears so I can see the keys on my keyboard. Using a 12VDC - 240VAC inverter, I'll be able to keep the internet router active.
So count me in, I'll be in here to make sure everybody else has switched everything off.
Thank you Ian! kiss
There won't be any wrong company where I'll be so no worries there Kenty but thanks for caring!

And just to pick up on this... it makes a statement and raises awareness. Climate change affects everyone, it makes sense for us all to be aware.

Sorry but until somone can prove 100% that it without doubt, this is happening then and only then will I listen.
Ya know what really stinks about all this? At the time when you turn your lights off for an hour, that will obviously save the world, I live 20 mins from Canary Wharf. Those buildings lights will be on and blaring out into the night sky.
Thousands of lights in those massive buildings. You want to raise awareness, then target those kind of buildings, that leave their lights on 24 hours a day...every day.
Me turning my lights off will not make a jot of difference to me, except maybe to my electric bill.
As to awareness issues, we know that cars and lorries and buses and coaches...pollute too. Are we all going to walk everywhere now as well? The awareness is already there, I should know I have to pay extra in me taxes for the saving of the enviroment.

So what are your viewpoints on air travel?

My viewpoints on air travel are that it's something most of us do. We're all hypocrites as we all contribute to climate change in one way or another.
However, I've taken only one flight in the last 12 months compared to the previous year and chosen to use other methods of transport instead.
You know what... trying to do something good for all the right reasons sometimes isn't worth the time or the effort.
We try and avoid airtravel when ever possible. Last time we went on holiday it was to Italy and we drove there. The journey was part of the holiday, we saw some lovely parts of France, Stayed the night in Switzerland, on Lake Lusanne and drove up and over the alps through the st Bernard pass. Saw things we would never have done if we had flown. I would recommend leaving the plane for those that need it for more pressing reasons.

Ah so you feel you have done your bit, only because you have used a plane once in a year?
If you really wanted to do something, get a bicycle. wink
No seriously.....what is the other form of transport you are using? Is it another enviromental killer, like a car perhaps? rolleyes
I'm away that weekend too DG but I'll join in! Anything to raise awareness is a good thing in my book.
I think I'm best staying out of the flying debate for now though
