Hi there,

We are staying in Playa Blanca in mid October. Looking for ideas for fun. Drop us a line if you are there too ?

Hi.

We were in Lanza a while back. Playa Blanca is lovely. We spent most days out in the Papagayo area. The beaches to the right of Papagayo were the best bet for us.

You may have to scramble over the rocks to get to the little hidden coves. But worth the effort. 😉

Lots of Dutch and Germans when we were there, so take your Google translate app 😁

If you are facing the sea follow the seafront walk around to the left as far as you can go. The first of the Papagayo beaches - mixed textile and naturist - is about a 20 minute walk from that point. There are 5 main beaches around the headland. You can drive there but it’s along a dirt track road which invalidates your hire car insurance. Some hire companies send spotters out to the car park to see if any of their cars are there and will issue fines. It’s a gorgeous beach with fun to be had so well worth the walk! Pic is Soph at the far end of the first beach in 2019!

We were thinking of hiring bikes to get from hotel. Says about 20 mins or so on bikes to get from centre of Playa Blanca out to the headland. Does that sound about right ?

Yep that would seem right. Using bikes seems like a good idea. There’s a small cafe on the headland. You could probably secure the bikes there then go off to explore the beaches on foot. It’s worth the effort!

Yes, sorry, I should have clarified what I meant when I said; “to the right” of Papagayo.

We park at the cafe ☝️, go down the path on the right, as you are looking at the sea.

First beach is semi naturist/textile, second little one more ‘our” kind of beach! 😉

We’ve always taken our hire car, with no problems, - but now I’m worried!

You have to pay the little man at the entrance a few euros.

It was €3 last time. Pre-economic stress!

Some hire companies will let you add on "off road" use to your insurance if you hire a 4x4 subject to an additional fee of course. The real problems arise if you have any sort of a mechanical issue on the 5km road to the beaches. Your insurance will not be valid and neither will any rescue/repair cover so you could end up facing a hefty bill. We always parked near the Sandos Papagayo Beach Resort hotel (free on street parking) and did the 20 minute walk to the first beach.

Yeah I don't think we'll be hiring cars this time. It gets so expensive and we will probably just want to chill out on the beach as much as possible. We're both pretty fit so a bike ride is probably the best option. Going to get some tennis in too as our hotel has courts.
