Returned from a week in Maspolamas just thought We would warn everybody. The police were patrolling the dunes and the bushy area everyday we were there for one week. Sometimes the police 4x4 parks right on top of the hill at the rear of the wooded dune area and a quad bike with a policeman patrols the bushy area and the dunes. He was also using binoculars watching for any goings on. At certain times the police 4x4 hides behind the big hill. Not good news so keep on your guard and eyes peeled.

Yes, I just got back too, and it's right that there's a lot of police presence in the dunes! Doesn't stop the fun, but it's something to be aware of. I'd always been told that the patrols in the dunes were to protect visitors from crime, but I'm not so sure now. The policeman on the quadbike seemed to be perving rather than protecting!

Public acts of sex are an affront to decency in any society. Why should Gran Canaria be any dfferent? There are places you can go to engage in open air sex and group sex in Gran Canaria without risk of legal action. Having lived and worked in Gran Canaria there were many gay guys arrested in the late 1980's and 90's for public sex offences mainly as a result of families complaining of guys wanking and having oral sex in the dunes. The NOT GOOD NEWS is that Swingers and gays are engaging in activities likely to cause public offence!
Swingers seem to now been indulging in similar activities so you should not be surprised that ordinary tourists will be shocked and complain about such activities to their holiday Reps and this will get back to the Policia Local.
We/you might not like it - but that is the way it is - just try engaging in a bit of public sex on your local beach here in the uk and see what happens.

You're quite right, but equally there's the fact that few people venture into the dunes without some prior knowledge of what to expect. With a certain amount of discretion, there's still ample scope for sex in the dunes, without police interference.
Of course, the swinger clubs in town offer a safer environment, but there's a certain frisson about al fresco sex....

I worked in Playa as a holiday Rep in the 80's and the biggest complaint was not about robbery or hand bag snatching or rip off "duty free" shops but blatant public sex acts in the Dunes. There is a public right of way that comes down the side of the flood ravine in Maspalomas to the beach and so much activity goes on around there whilst hundreds of families are meandering down to the beach.
I am not disagreeing with what you say about al fresco sex - look at our profile pics but the Swingers beach at Cap d'Agde is (albeit only a tiny bit) more acceptable than on a beach where families are going to be and totally not expecting to come across sexual players.

I've been to the dunes in Maspalomas on about 5 holidays, and my last visit was the only time I've ever seen a family wandering about. The couple had 2 little boys with them, and thankfully realised what was happening before the boys saw anything (the German lady's moans could have been the clue). They turned round and headed back to the beach. I don't think too many people innocently walk into the middle of the dunes.

well we had a very good time over xmas,didnt get to go to the new club though 
we dont play in the dunes because i have seen too much internet porn that has been filmed in the GC dunes!,probably filmed by the coppers! x
