As with everything in life, you pay for what you get. Tartan (proper stuff, that is) is handwoven, and takes an age to make. The kilt is then handmade from that (unless you're really into tradition, and like to roll your own, so to speak every time you put it on. If you're on the west coast and have a car, there's a really good kilt-makers in Inverary (spelling!). He'll make your kilt for you, but again, be prepared to pay the big bucks for it, since it represents a couple of solid weeks work for a true Master.
I may purchase an acrylic kilt off eBay, as they're not too shabby, on further reflection. However, getting on in Ancient Campbell (the only tartan I have the right to wear) may be tricky!

Firstly, please do think very carefully about buying an acryilic kilt. Many of them have been shown to be highly flammable and with the evening we're all looking forward to we wouldn't want anyone spontaneously combusting. :twisted:
Secondly, no one has a 'right' to any tartan. The so-called family tartans and their rights to who gets to wear them were invented by a company in the lowlands after the repeal of the Act of Proscription and by Sir Walter Scott for the the visit of the big fat German lairdie to Scotland. The highlanders who wore them had far more on their minds than bothering about which colour of thread was in their tartan. Identification of clans was through the plant, ribbon or whatever they wore on their bonnets. Here endeth the history lesson.:jagsatwork:

After the success of the Glasgow Munch in March :happy: we have decided to hold another on the 26th November in Glasgow again. in a Private Venue ..
As before the venue will be sent out to you via a PM along with names of local hotels and directions approx two weeks before, same rule applies that if you are not on the list then you will not gain entry to the venue..

hi im jay from central scotland. Can i come to the munch in glasgow on the 26th november. Not been to one yet but i am an active member off swingingheaven, was using the chatroom but lost my login and i have been a member off the forum since march 2005.

OK. I have the entire week before the munch booked as leave. And I haven't been on holiday as such this year. Sooooooo, I was thinking what better place than Scotland in late November . Might even be able to top up my fading tan
The plan is this: if anyone fancies putting me up for the night, I'll bring some booze and might even, if you'd like it, cook something. I'll have a sleeping bag and am happy crashing on the floor. Though I must be honest and admit it'd be foolish to turn anyone down if they fancied some company under the duvet. BUT that isn't what I am expecting, just a place to crash after having a night in or out with someone I kind of know from the forum even if I haven't met them.
I have heard this Scotland is a bit of a big place, so depending on who offers, if anyone, I'll not be able to say exactly what day I might arrive until I have some kind of route planned. ( Don't want to be in Thurso on monday and Lockerbie on tuesday to then go to Aberdeen for wednesday. ) Oh, and I may have a kayak on my roof-rack, so if you are in a city, I'll need somewhere to store a 10foot long canoe type thing. (garden, hallway/garage)
