Is it safe to meet up with people on here, got some very wied replies to my ad so removed it just while I feel confident

Safer than pulling a stranger in a night club. At least this way you get to vet the wierd replies first and there'd be a stack of evidence on your PC for the police to compile likely suspects if the worst happenned. Which hopefully psycho's out there will be put off by.
Seriously, follow the same advice that applies when arranging to meet anyone you don't know - off this site, answering a lonely hearts ad or otherwise. Trusting your instincts, telling someone where you are going & when to expect you back, not accepting a lift there or back, meeting in a public place, watching your drink etc.
