Hi
I run a small village pub and would like to possibly hold a small social in the pub.
Would like some help and advice as to how to organise this, without making the whole vilage know what I am up to.
Hi there!
Welcome to the forum.
If I were doing this, I would probably start a chatroom up on a pretty regular basis for folk in my area, say called the "Anywhereshire Chat" and persevere till you get a decent cohort of vaguely local folk you know to chat to. Build up trust, chat etc and I'm sure they would be well up for a social. People usually advertise them on this forum (I'm sure you can see that) and the general rule is that venues are not given out until just before the event and then only via private message to those folk who have confirmed their attendance on the thread.
If it is your pub, then you can surely just close for a night and say it is a private function? Or do you have a room that you could dedicate to the social? By their nature, socials are usually held in public venues and therefore people will (generally) have the decency to dress, act etc simply as if they are on a 'regular' night out.
If you are new to the site, then I think your best bet is to work on getting yourself known in the chatrooms, the forums and maybe attending some other socials. That way people will feel happy to come to an event organised by a 'regular'.
Good luck with it! (Also, see the stickied threads at the top of this forum for some more ideas.)
