1st Record ever bought

The first that was bought for me was something northern-England-folkish. Maybe the Houghton Weavers. But that's stretching my memory further than it usually likes to go. I'm fairly sure it included "D'ye ken John Peel". Google is letting me down.
The first record I bought myself (it must have been with birthday money) was Men Without Hats "Rhythm of Youth". I was 10. Discovering that there was music other than the stuff my parents listened to just in time for 80s. I've been scarred ever since.
Hi all, Slim. "D'ye ken ", remember it well, Is there not a tape somewhere of the Beatles using it for a rehearsal one day. They were pretty rubbish at that stage. The group you mentioned did they not have a big No 3 last year.
Well the first one I can remember every buying with my own money was Cottonfields by the beach boys.

Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor by Borodin.

Not my first record - but I do have it. I also love 'Morning' from Peer Gynt by Greig!

I'm ashamed to admit this (honestly my tastes have now changed a lot)..... "Long Haired Lover from Liverpool" by Jimmy Osmond! redface
Mandy
There goes my credibility! smile
Well peeps it's so hazy and vague now (god the tortured years that have passed lol) but I think it was "Automatically Sunshine - The Supremes"
Thos heady heady days of school disco's - boys one end, girls the other, each group eyeing up the other.......whats changed? lol
I think the first single ever bought was
"Swords of a Thousand Men" Tenpole Tudor
Album would have been.. 12 Gold Bars - Status Quo
Still got both somewhere. redface
If you like Grieg, never go to Bergen. He must have been their only successful export, and they don't want the tourists to forget. I was on the verge of murdering someone after the first day.

I'm ashamed to say it was Come back my love, by Darts!!!!
I was never one for singles, so the first was Sinful by Pete Wylie in around 1986.
The first of many albums was Lionheart by Kate Bush, possibly just for the cover. Eeh it's so long ago I can hardly remember.
you think THOSE songs were bad ... the 1st song i ever brought was long haired lover from liverpool by jimmy osmond ...
oh the shame of it redface
My first record was Rolf Harris, Two Little Boys (cringe). redface
I remember buying it in WHSmith, Corporation Street, Birmingham. The shop had wooden floors and lots of booths for listen to the records in. I think I paid 7/6d for it. I have another clear memory of my girl friends and I singing it while standing in the cue for dinners at school. :karaoke:
crikey, i've got that lurking in the loft, well and truly hidden, though my excuse was that it was given to me redface surprisedops:
Wilma still plays it when she is doing the housework - dunno what you are ashamed about!
I remember it as though it was yesterday. Sneeking out of the house, catching the bus into town, and then trying in vain to hide under my jacket on the way back home.
"The Number of The Beast" Album by Iron Maiden. The real bummer was when I got it home the hard facts of reality dawned on me......
i hadnt even got a freakin record player.!!!!!!!
OH BUGGER!!

OMG this is embarrassing, if other people hadn't admitted to what they'd done I doubt I ever could.
Having said that I'm no longer ashamed to admit that the first two records I ever bought were:
The laughing gnome by David Bowie and the monster mash by (I think) Bobby Picket and the crypt kicker five. Some time round about 1974 I think.
Don't ask me how much they were coz I can't remember.
I'm not sure if I'm gonna get any credibiltiy back here but at the same time I had to order " Coz I luv you" by Slade because it was out of production at the time. That record still brings back some very good memories for me.
Steve
lol, I am ashamed to say what my first record was.
Russ Abbott - Oh what an atmosphere
HOW SAD, DONT BAN ME FROM THE FORUM, lol
:shock: All this talk of oldies and goldies made me dig out some of my old favourites. I have just listened to this;
Slade - My Oh My
I believe in woman, my oh my
I believe in lovin', my oh my
Don't a woman need a man
Try and catch one if you can
I believe in woman, my oh my
We all need someone to talk to, my oh my
We all need someone to talk to, my oh my
You need a shoulder to cry on
Call me I'll be standing by
We all need someone to talk to, my oh my
We all need a lotta lovin', my oh my
Yeah a whole lotta lovin', my oh my
I can lend a helping hand
If you ain't got nothing planned
We all need some lovin', my oh my
So let's all swing together, my oh my
We can all swing together, my oh my
You've got troubles of your own
No need to face them all alone
We can all swing together, my oh my
So let's all pull together, my oh my
Yeah let's all pull together, my oh my
We can ride the stormy weather
If we all get out and try
So let's all pull together, my oh my
Yeah let's all pull together, my oh my
 Noddy, are you out there? lol

Good Lord! You were all a bit late in buying your first records!
The very first record I owned was........wait for it.......
"I'm the Urban Spaceman" by the Bonzo Dog DooDah Band (no, I am not making it up!). This track was written by Neil Innes (the band also included Viv Stanshall who is the 'MC' on Tubular Bells, which has been mentioned elsewhere on this thread). I was incredibly young at the time but the record was given to me by my big brother who had got bored with it. To be fair he was nearly 10 years older than me!
The first single I bought with my own money was "Hot Love" by T-Rex. I was only about 7.
I still have both of them at home!
I had bought my first album even earlier than that, but I am FAR too embarrassed to spill the beans on that one!! redface surprisedops:  and, no, I don't still have it!
I hope you have the "Boxed" version of Tubular Bells, willxx69 wink
My sister was in love with Noddy Holder...... I remember most of their songs but only because she had them. I am not as old as you Kat!!!!
Love
Wilma

Hi all, Slim. There are some crackers in there now. The Line "We can ride the stormy weather" brings back a very fun packed camping trip some years back, Monty Python would have loved it.
I am still considering the younger beauty's out there (2 posts ago)? but have to report not much encouragement. sad
Oh dear redface
Paul Young - Wherever I Lay My Hat!
I thought this very old thread was worth reviving. A more recent thread (you can guess which one) has reminded me that the first record I ever bought was Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport, byRolf Harris
Mike.
Over the rainbow by Matchbox ... or Pretty Little Angel Eyes - Showaddywaddy - actually I never bought that the band themselves gave it to me
Mine was the brat is back or something,a piss take of John Mcenroe. redface surprisedops:
