20kb for Avatar Pic???

As i look around the Forum i see some peoples Avatars and there Mint. there is no way there under 20kb.
Is it because im just a new and shall i have more as i muture into a fuller member?

They really are all under 20kb - most under 10kb!
Unless they are a link to a pic on the web.

All under 20kb. A lot of these avatas will be taken resized (see JQL's signature) and perhaps reduced in quality using a graphics program.
Just remember to frop the image as much as you can and then make sure it is the right size.
Have fun playing around.

I do hope that JQL (for I assume it is he who is the creator of the Amazing Avatar Making Machine) - has received some sort of award for outstanding contribution to SH forum. It is amazing what you can squash into that tiny little box

Avatar Sizer has proved to be very popular, not just here but generally - over 6,000 downloads since it was released in the middle of March!
Due to the popularity, I am working on a full (commercial) version which will do Animated GIFs and also turn Movies (AVIs) into Animated Avatars.
So if you've got a movie of something special :twisted: , you may be able to use part of it as your Avatar. I estimate you will be able to turn approximately 5 - 15 seconds of AVI Movie (depending on movement, background changes lol

) into an Avatar based on the SH size rules.
There are also other enhancements as well, like automatically adjusting the quality to bring the size down to suit the site rules etc...
Because it will be a commercial product, if Mark and the Mods permit, I'll let you know when it becomes available and where to get it from.
Note: the current version of Avatar Sizer will always be free of charge on the SH site.

I'd suggest you send an e-mail to Mark to ask him just exactly what he'll let you do to plug it. People get a far more favourable response if they approach him up front about these kind of things. biggrin
