The government yesterday announced that they are looking into suspending the 2p fuel duty in october is this a gimmick or a move to help out suffering families?.....will the suspension of the 2p in the autumn stop the increasing prices of petrol already affecting everyone
It wont stop fuel prices going up as the price of oil keeps rising..
They may wait to see if they get re-elected rotflmao before slapping an extra 2p on a litre..
I think they will revise their VED plans as well but will revert to type if they get re-elected :rotflmao:
WOW !!!!
A whole 2p lol
Now do I buy a new Ferrari or a Bentley GT??
Aw Feck It I'll just buy both rolleyes
Well 2p a litre on a 70+ litre full up makes a big difference when buying fuel regularly...
thou fuel tax is high in this country it is not the real reason for the current increase in cost..and the future increases you will soon see. the fact is under current consumption levels it is estimated that there is basically 25 years of oil left in the Middle East. The Princes in Saudi Arabia are concerned what they are going to do for income, as this oil supply dwindles. So they reduceing, the output, ( at the moment by 20% ) but increasing the price. Therefore they make the same revenue from less production, but also will then mean reserves and supply last longer. in other words they make the same obscene profit for longer. We best get used to it, this will only get worse !!
the only way out of this is for someone to come up with a viable alternative fuel source.
We'll buy oil from somewhere other than the middle east..
They dont hold a monopoly on it....
Watched a programme about a week ago and there are oil fields all over the world that have yet to be tapped into so the middle east could price themselves out of the market if they get too greedy..
2p eh? That's about what my bloody payrise of % is for this year evil

I feel high petrol prices are here to stay. The proposed scrapping of the 2p increase is just a con. Petrol has increased so much that 2p wont make a great deal of difference.
The Government would have it at £ 2 a litre if they could as the tax and VAT they charge, it would benefit them the higher it goes.
This Government has proved beyond any doubt they are incompetent and not fit for purpose. The economy is going down the pan and they have no answers. The only thing the UK is now known for is it's financial markets, which are suffering big time.
Don't be suprised to see petrol hit £150 a litre before it Government are finished whatever they now do as we are skint as a country with nothing left to sell either.
What a crying shame to think how great this country once was. I feel really sorry for the millions of low wage earners out there, God knows how they are surviving at the moment with everything going up on a daily basis. cool I know of two people in the last two months who have had to get out of their homes. That is the worst injustice to have lost your house. How many are on the breadline? So 2p not to be put on fuel is the least of a lot of peoples problems.
Petrol prices are seriously hurting me at the moment(running 2 cars that drink it for fun)i reckon its costing me between £10-£15 extra per week.
When i bought my newer 1 of the 2 about 3 yrs ago i went for a diesel car based on fuel consumption and reliability when diesel was 93p a ltr now i am paying a ltr about a 45% increase in 3 yrs yet my salary has gone up about 12% somehow the sums don't add up, to the point i am now considering going to 1 car as i reckon this will save me circa £25oo pa ,i can think of a lot of things i would rather spend the money on.
Mr Saralou

Mr Saralou
u save more than that , what with car tax mot insurance wear n tear of tyres
The Government could solve the high petrol prices overnight. All they have to do is reduce the 84% tax on the stuff.
Just think that at per litre of diesel goes straight into the Chancellor of the Exchequer's sweaty mitt.

They do have about half of it though.
Two maps:

The first map also includes an explanation ( ) about why it's misleading to include the sand and shale based oil reserves - basically they're really difficult to mine and turn into actual oil you can run a car on; it produces masses of pollution and uses up almost as much energy as it eventually yields. So this means that a lot of the reserves often quoted for Canada and the US are not very useful. Same goes for the deep deep sea oil reserves. Yes, they're massive, but they're so hard to get to that we almost may as well not bother (often 2 1/2 times as deep as the North Sea oilfields, for example).
That map lists the global reserves at 900 gigabarrels and current consumption at 30 per year. Even if consumption didn't go up, that's still only 30 years...
All of that said, the second map came from an article in the Independent a few weeks ago that argues that many of the OPEC countries are deliberately underestimating their reserves to keep the price high. Whether you believe that or not is up to you. Their map, you'll note, includes the oil and shale reserves in the US and Canada, but counts Russia as having less oil than the other map... go figure.
It's all just guessing. Fuck it. I'll keep riding my bike.

Yeah this has always worried me - surely if we base our economy on something so abstract, it's only a matter of time before someone else figures out how to do it and we're right up shit creek. Bring back men with hammers making stuff out of lumps of metal, that's what I say.
2p or not 2p? There was me thinking of the little group of bushes that I find hard to pass without stopping when we've had a night at the local pub. It's obviously psychological.
