Sorry to bring a sombre tone to the room, but this day has affected me deeply the last 3 years, have tried to write a nice poem about 9/11 but this is what i turned out instead.
Its been 3 years or so im told by the date
Images still vivid like it was yesterday
craddling my newborn son whilst tears fell
now i walk him to school, has it really been that long?
Oh, how they have missed so much
Wives grieving, children growing
Babies born, without knowing
But we wont forget you,
You live in our hearts and minds, carried forward,
telling your children and loved ones
stories your not here to tell
As time moves forward, you wont be left behind
You wont age, change or disappear
Your present is omnipotent
Strong yet gentle, quiet yet profound
How those families are so strong
to carry the burden of grief
tarnished with the blood of politics and hatred
How can Moira Smiths 4 yr old daughter
ever understand that supposed religion took her mommy away?
Heaven is only a heartbeat away
RIP Innocent Citizens of the world
When I visited the NYPD museum, was struck by the story of Moria Smith, the only Female NYPD police office to lose her life on 9/11 (there was another female to lose her life but she worked for the Port Authority Police Dept), probably because she was a mother. Just broke my heart.
Sorry folks, just wanted to tell someone :upset:
there's a poetry sticky at the top of the page, it's worth adding this in there as well so it doesn't dissapear..

What can one say after that
Oh shit! I wasn't prepared for this thread!!
My memories of that day are so terribly clear. I remember being apalled at the destruction I could see unfolding before me on my computer screen.
I worked for a US company and I had two English friends working in New York at the time. One guy had been in my class at school. By chance, he had taken a few days off work to be with his children as they started at a new school. His office was on the 21st floor of the Twin Towers. He would not have made it. Although he has never returned to this country I see his father on a regular basis and we often talk about the hand of fate.
The other guy didn't make it!
I had to juxtapose that with a member of staff who came and spoke to me while all this was unfolding to tell me how this was a 'just' outcome. He spoke quietly and calmly and with a sickeningly ingratiating smile on his face. I was appalled and dumbfounded. He had seemed such a normal guy. A Pakistani by birth he had been a maths teacher in Bradford and had come down to London to work in IT and improve the lot of his family. On the face of it a very laudable aim. It turned out that he worshipped at the Finsbury Park Mosque under Abu Hamza. I was struck at how a normal, decent guy had been so taken in by the doctrine of hatred and couldn't see the obscenity of what he was being asked to believe. It was especially disturbing as I knew that this is not really what Islam is about. On various future occasions he told me how all other religions were corrupted (particularly Christianity) and that there would "never be peace until every country in the world was ruled by an Islamist Government" Such intolerance and bigotry from an apparently quiet and unassuming guy was truly shocking.
Whatever religious beliefs we may have (including those of no faith at all) the most important thing is to respect each other and to acknowledge that no-one has a monopoly on kindness and compassion.
Will
Crikey Will,it must have been hard to hear those comments.I think the world would be a far more peaceful and happier place without religion,it only seems to cause sufferring and every war has been to do with it.
Watching the programmes over the past few days about the conspiracy stories surrounding 9/11 has been a bit sickening.I would hope our country would all pull together at a time like that, not start rumours of government plots.
we have now enetered a new age in the world a one which is sad ,horrific and very very frightening.
you have to cry tears for the thuosands who died in the horrific event of sept 11th.
also, you have to for the thousands of lifes lost (and still needllesly) in the recent conflicts of iraq and afgahnistan. wars can never be won, they solve nothing, why cant we as the supposed most inteligent species on this planet just get along with each other. ?
all those young babies and children killed in russia, it made me weep. *thought*(below)
the usa has attacked more countries than any other in history........
its allways the innocent civilians who suffer the most. im afraid for the youngsters they know nothing of world is going to get worse for the forseeable future.
"it is not those who inflict the most but, those that suffer the most that will conquer" well known poet 1923
its beautiful!! Here's thinking of all the families affected by 9/11.
Sorry for being harsh but people die in wars and because of terrorist attacks all the time.
It is estimated that 4,500 children died every month in Iraq due to US sanctions against them. Where is their memorial service?
It's sad that things like this happen, you can only think of the families of the victims on a day like today and imagine how they must feel.
Sorry, forgot to say thanks to those who appreciated the poem, used to write a lot, but then had the kids.
Its great to get some feedback, thank you :rose:
Nice poem hope you didnt think I was saying it wasnt in my first reply!! I meant the actual subject but very nice poem!
Not at all Fruity, i understood what you meant!
I think we must speak the same lingo (a female thing?!) lol
Thought id bump this up to the top as ive nominated it for most thought provoking thread!!!
