Sorry to bring a sombre tone to the room, but this day has affected me deeply the last 3 years, have tried to write a nice poem about 9/11 but this is what i turned out instead.
Its been 3 years or so im told by the date
Images still vivid like it was yesterday
craddling my newborn son whilst tears fell
now i walk him to school, has it really been that long?
Oh, how they have missed so much
Wives grieving, children growing
Babies born, without knowing
But we wont forget you,
You live in our hearts and minds, carried forward,
telling your children and loved ones
stories your not here to tell
As time moves forward, you wont be left behind
You wont age, change or disappear
Your present is omnipotent
Strong yet gentle, quiet yet profound
How those families are so strong
to carry the burden of grief
tarnished with the blood of politics and hatred
How can Moira Smiths 4 yr old daughter
ever understand that supposed religion took her mommy away?
Heaven is only a heartbeat away
RIP Innocent Citizens of the world

When I visited the NYPD museum, was struck by the story of Moria Smith, the only Female NYPD police office to lose her life on 9/11 (there was another female to lose her life but she worked for the Port Authority Police Dept), probably because she was a mother. Just broke my heart.
Sorry folks, just wanted to tell someone :upset:
there's a poetry sticky at the top of the page, it's worth adding this in there as well so it doesn't dissapear..
excellent stuff hertscouple.
Sorry I feel I dont have anything good enough to say about the poem, nice poem (if you know what I mean!) confused I remember seeing that on the television, was so surreal, like it wasnt really real but just some kind of disaster movie. I dont mean that to sound bad if it did, not what I intended.
Makes you wonder what else might happen in the future, makes you realise how lucky you are, being so far away from it and although I didnt think it affected me very deeply (dunno if its cause I felt detached from the situation) I still remember being so upset for all involved and also so relieved that it wasnt anything closely personal to me which I know you might find a bit heartless.
Mebbie Im just rambling and not making any sense except to myself right now. Apology in advance, just in case.
bueatiful u have a heart of pure gold

What can one say after that
Oh shit! I wasn't prepared for this thread!!
My memories of that day are so terribly clear. I remember being apalled at the destruction I could see unfolding before me on my computer screen.
I worked for a US company and I had two English friends working in New York at the time. One guy had been in my class at school. By chance, he had taken a few days off work to be with his children as they started at a new school. His office was on the 21st floor of the Twin Towers. He would not have made it. Although he has never returned to this country I see his father on a regular basis and we often talk about the hand of fate.
The other guy didn't make it!
I had to juxtapose that with a member of staff who came and spoke to me while all this was unfolding to tell me how this was a 'just' outcome. He spoke quietly and calmly and with a sickeningly ingratiating smile on his face. I was appalled and dumbfounded. He had seemed such a normal guy. A Pakistani by birth he had been a maths teacher in Bradford and had come down to London to work in IT and improve the lot of his family. On the face of it a very laudable aim. It turned out that he worshipped at the Finsbury Park Mosque under Abu Hamza. I was struck at how a normal, decent guy had been so taken in by the doctrine of hatred and couldn't see the obscenity of what he was being asked to believe. It was especially disturbing as I knew that this is not really what Islam is about. On various future occasions he told me how all other religions were corrupted (particularly Christianity) and that there would "never be peace until every country in the world was ruled by an Islamist Government" Such intolerance and bigotry from an apparently quiet and unassuming guy was truly shocking.
Whatever religious beliefs we may have (including those of no faith at all) the most important thing is to respect each other and to acknowledge that no-one has a monopoly on kindness and compassion.
Will
Crikey Will,it must have been hard to hear those comments.I think the world would be a far more peaceful and happier place without religion,it only seems to cause sufferring and every war has been to do with it.
Watching the programmes over the past few days about the conspiracy stories surrounding 9/11 has been a bit sickening.I would hope our country would all pull together at a time like that, not start rumours of government plots.
we have now enetered a new age in the world a one which is sad ,horrific and very very frightening.
you have to cry tears for the thuosands who died in the horrific event of sept 11th.
also, you have to for the thousands of lifes lost (and still needllesly) in the recent conflicts of iraq and afgahnistan. wars can never be won, they solve nothing, why cant we as the supposed most inteligent species on this planet just get along with each other. ?
all those young babies and children killed in russia, it made me weep. *thought*(below)
the usa has attacked more countries than any other in history........
its allways the innocent civilians who suffer the most. im afraid for the youngsters they know nothing of world is going to get worse for the forseeable future.
"it is not those who inflict the most but, those that suffer the most that will conquer" well known poet 1923
lol
its beautiful!! Here's thinking of all the families affected by 9/11.

I feel really frightened more so every year when there seems to be some other threat to safety. Dodgy subject all these heartless bastards in power who lets face it are only really there to line their own pockets with drugs money while all us little worker ants (erm people) scurry about trying to scrape a living while not really knowing the real truth about what goes on in the world around us.
I wonder if we will ever have a revolution where everyone will join together and fight the powers that be or at least join together enough to push to make a difference and tbh I dont think peaceful protests will ever do any good expecially when the fuckers dont want us to excersize our right to freedom of speech and whatever else they choose not to let us have.
At times I hate this scabby world we live in and wonder how long it will be before someone actually does blow us all up and also wonder if sometimes that wouldnt be such a bad thing. I think we should round up all the fucking government ministers, mod anyone in power and lock them in a big fucking cage, make them work for 16 hours a day with barely no or low quality food, have them ridiculed and pelted with rotten fruit on a daily basis ( I know that wouldnt solve world peace but be good to see all the blairs and bushes of the world pelted, c,mon that big scrawny gob of cheries needs a good fucking pounding with a rotten tomato!)
I remember being about 7 or 8 with the iran conflict thing with colonel gadaffi and having nightmares.
Dont think we will ever rid the world of this situation although compared to large percentage of the world we are very very lucky in terms of safety etc confused
Sorry I rambled again!
Sorry for being harsh but people die in wars and because of terrorist attacks all the time.
It is estimated that 4,500 children died every month in Iraq due to US sanctions against them. Where is their memorial service?
I didnt intend to make this a political debate, but just wanted to remember those that have died, but fully understand that this is a natural course to take. Its also good to see a healthy debate without others attacking anothers point of view, but then thats why I enjoy this forum because of the decent quality of people in here, shame the whole world isnt like it sad
As for a memorial service for those children in Iraq, they may well hold a service, but the news wouldnt cover that and why would we hold one? All we tend to see from countries like Somalia/Iraq etc are how they put a machine gun in the hands of a child, send him in to fight (because they know the western soldiers wouldnt shoot a child), then use childrens death as political propanganda for themselves  Or send their womenfolk into built up areas, covered with explosives, well lets face it, females are worth less to them arent they?
There is so much that we dont see, or gets twisted by the western media, gets interpreted incorrectly, or used by these middle east countries for their own means, that I dont think there will ever be world peace, esp when you look at the words of Wills colleague, so brainwashed into thinking he is right, above anyone else etc, that with people like that, how can there be?
Hence when i said in my poem, RIP Innocent Citizens of the World, i wasnt just referring to the Twin Towers victims.
PS. not trying to provoke anything here, just pointing out all sides to the stories, im open minded in life not just in swinging lol
It's sad that things like this happen, you can only think of the families of the victims on a day like today and imagine how they must feel.
Sorry, forgot to say thanks to those who appreciated the poem, used to write a lot, but then had the kids.
Its great to get some feedback, thank you :rose:

i was deliberatly going to let this thread a few reasons...
i was born and lived in america and in new york (my politics are not the same as bush's.. far from it)
i lost 6 bloody good friends in those buiildings on that faithful day.... so i thought that yesterday was not the time to bring stuff up....
and it doesn't matter how many people we lose... whether it is 3,000 people in those building or 350 adults and children in a school in russia, whatever your cause is.. if you kill one innocent person then it is one too many........
