I've been looking since Friday night for a thread to put this in, but can't find one where it would fit, and more importantly, not detract from the thread or the peole it was aimed at or about.
But in another, totally unrelated thread Suze said this . . . . . .

So; before I forget.
I wanted to say thank you to people that thought about me, and the other truck drivers, over the past few (windy) days.
Thank you for the calls, texts and thoughts.
I was touched by all of them, and amused by some of them.
One of the warmest, and most amusing included the line . . . .
" . . . debated all day to text or not . . . don't try texting back. Just take care."

Due to the advances of teknologys, it's actually easier and safer for me to make and take calls than it is to read, or write texts. The magic piece of modern communication equipment HLB bought me for my last birthday allows me to send and "Auto-response" text by pressing only 2 buttons, that tells the sender that I'm driving and can't really respond by text.
Me and a mate (on the same firm) were trying to keep a tally via the radio news of how many trucks had gone over, but lost count at 14. I think that was Thursday.
I only actually saw two, (both curtain-siders) but heard of others on the same road as I was on at the time. Some behind me, some ahead.
It's very unusual for containers to be blown over, due mainly to the weights we tend to run at. Although they do have a definite "design" danger in that they have a “square” roofline.
Here’s a couple of pics from the dock rows.
we're just glad to know your safe and sound dammie
the SH wouldn't be the same with you and HLB
Coffee and diet coke was fun!!!!
The walk to the car park was windy..........
lol
actually from someone who was also having our own problems with the winds....(see the steam room thread if you are none the wiser) you know it is a bad day when we have our "disruption flipcharts" open and having teleconferences with various companies about "what you still have running" can you possibly allow our passengers to pass ect..... when we start getting updates about what is happening on the roads, i think it is only the 2nd time in 5 years i have seen that happen....so i can only imagine what is what like for you truckers.... but glad you were safe thru everything...
sean
Mr W used to drive HGV's (before they were turned into LGV'S!) so I was thinking of all you poor truckers out there kiss Looks like the weather's gonna get nasty next week too.
Take care y'all
Know what you mean Dambuster I had friends , work & Mrs Sword on the phone all day & night as I trucked my way up to Knottingly from Corby a rather long day 12hrs from start to finish mad
I counted about 11 overturned wagons on my way up & back all curtain siders & most empty , glad I was only leaving the trailor & bringing the unit back biggrin
A worrying time indeed, for us truckdriver spouses!
After having 1 very serious accident in his truck I dont wish to go through the panic and worry of another because of the atrocious weather conditions my husband has to drive in, so those that sent messages Dambuster were right to have cause for concern, and Im sure you felt humbled at the concern shown.
Bless you very important people, for without you we wouldnt be able to go shopping and buy the latest fashions, enjoy a pint at our local or refuel our car for the journey to our first munch, So to you, Mr Grif, Dambuster and all you other drivers
Not so much a trucker, more a daredevil on our roads today, thoughts are with you all
Mrs G x
I was being dragged into the road waiting for my bus last Thursday
Got home & saw on the news that a truck had gone off a bridge & killed the driver
As Winchwench has said take care all you truckers kiss
I was worried about you Dammie but didn't want to text incase you were driving.... Glad to see you are home safe and sound kiss
ok, yes, i complain about truck drivers, yes, i feel more freight should be moved onto railways (nothing to do with me being involved with track maintenance honest guv) yes i was less than complimentary last week when a lorry tried overtaking my 7 month pregnant sister and year old nephew, when the gust of wind caught his lorry and sideswiped her into a ditch, needing a forklift to remove it
without the shite journeys, the long hours, the time away from family and loved ones that are carried out by lorry drivers, i wouldnt have the loaf of bread i open in the morning, the food i get from the shops
im still going to bitch when im out driving, but thank you all, for everything
I hate driving in strong wind. Makes me quite nervous, especially on motorways. I was only a few hours ahead of that coach which crashed in bad storms on the M25 the other week
Keep safe Dammie kiss
When ever it's windy (Or any other "extreme" weather conditions) I make sure that:
Truckers can see where I am (not that I don't anyway, but I make sure it's bloody obvious....) Tail gaters of any kind piss me off so much.
If I have to overtake I give them as much room as possible.
It's bad enough driving a bloody transit, but in a truck....? Am glad you're okay Dammie.

My car isn't that slow....lol
But seriously, if people just used a bit more common sense, things wouldn't be as bad as they can be.....
