Today, we received this in our Inbox, as this is the only site where we use our email address it looks like someone is harvesting addresses for ulterior motives. Of course it's a con, but the Nigerians who run these scams make an awful lot of money out of the gullible/greedy who think they are going to make easy money.
If you get something similar then you can safely ignore it.
Here is the email if you want a laugh:
Permit me to inform you of my desire of going into business relationship with you. I got your name and contact from the Ivoirian chamber of commerce and industry. I prayed over it and selected your name among other names due to its esteeming nature and the recommendations given to me as a reputable and trust worthy person that I can do business with and by the recommendation, I must not hesitate to confide in you for this simple and sincere business.
I am DAVID KONE the only son of late Chief and Mrs. PHILIP KONE. My father was a very wealthy cocoa merchant in Abidjan , the economic capital of Ivory coast, my father was poisoned to dearth by his business associates on one of their outings on a business trip .My mother died when I was a baby and since then my father took me so special. Before the death of my father on January 2001 in a private hospital here in Abidjan he secretly called me on his bed side and told me that he has the sum of Eightteen million, five hundred thousand United State Dollars. USD ($ ,000) left in prime bank here in Abidjan, that he used my name as his only son for the next of Kin in depositing of the fund.
He also explained to me that it was because of this wealth that he was poisoned by his business associates. That I should seek for a foreign partner in a country of my choice where i will transfer this money and use it for investment purpose such as real estate management or hotel management . Please, I am honourably seeking for your assistance in the following ways: (1)To provide a bank account into which this money would be transferred to. (2) To serve as a guardian of this fund since I am only 19 years. (3) To make arrangement for me to come over to your country to further my education and to secure a resident permit in your country (4)To make arrangement to come down to Abidjan for signing of business Agreement and for the clearing of the fund in the bank.
Moreover, I will like you to tell me what you will take from the total sum as compensation for your effort/input after the successful transfer of this fund into your nominated account overseas Furthermore, you indicate your options towards assisting me as I believe that this transaction would be concluded within fourteen (14) days you signify interest to assist me.
Anticipating to hear from you soon.
Thanks and God bless.
Best regards,
PRINCE DAVID KONE.
It's long been around that one - or similar from people with different names. It's a well known scam and nothing new.
Your email address is accessible from many sources - mostly from people who have your email address in their address book and then get a virus which sends out mail randomly.
Having your email address not visible on this site is a start i.e. in the photo ads sytem having anonymous email switched on and don't post your address in the body of a message like this os it invites trouble.
read this earlier warning from another Mod
i get them all the time im a cruel bitch i just delete them
dont come asking me for money you wont get any......
Like all longwinded spam..........I ran out of energy halfway through. What was he waffling on about again?!
My favourite is still
BREAK DOWN WALLS WITH YOUR MIGHTY COCK!
Bet there`s a few here who signed up for that one! lol
Venusxxx
there is a website dedicated to these type of cons......some people go out fo their way to lead them on and wind them up... the results can be hilareous!
I get about a hundred of those scams a day. Literally. You'd think someone somewhere might think "Gee, if he gets too many almost-identical emails, mightn't he get a bit suspicious?", but I guess not.
Ooo I love this one, check out those seeking revenge below:
These are known as 419 scams after the section of the Nigerian penal code that makes them illegal. I always forward them to

E-mail Address(es):

Where they get them removed from the ISP . There is whole culure of scamming the scammers, I do not get involved in that as I would not like to meet any of these guys in a dark alley .
Clearly the lads are not stopped , but if you slow them down a bit it may just save some nice persons life savings .
On another wavelength , my 300 is not far off , post not birthday biggrin , so I suppose I will be changing from "need to get out more" to confused:
I believe there's a couple of nasty bit of software. 1 just generates random email addresses and posts this carp to them. The other scans your computer for email addresses when you log onto a site or downloads itself onto your computer and sends information back to the source whenever you log on.
Don't know how true the second one is TBH.
There is an incredibly easy answer to all of this .
1. Do not open emails unless u know the sender
2. Do not open attachments unless u know the sender
Allthough if u live in the North Wales / Cheshire area please carry on as i need the work lol
Edit : Joke confused
Anyone else seen this website? A group of people have put together a site where people who are trying to scam others out of money are baited and ridiculed :-D

Also worth looking at is the website where a guy writes mock-genuine replies to all sorts of spam. Hilarious! See:

Mike.
Weve had loads recently from people who we know of,but lucky spots a virus from a mile away.
We got an email yesterday telling us that we'd won $1,000,000,I bloody wish!!!!!!!!
Clare,xxx
wink
Since I have dropped my msn account this type of mail has got less, these people harvest e-mail addresses from any site where they can get them, msn, , smartgroups and the rest.
TS
I still get this shit email, and I have never used msn, I also don't have a address.
After due investigation, and loads of time, I found that the cause was spyware. This shite is dumped onto the machine , mainly in my case from other sites that "masquerade" as useful sites (you click to go to a site and get re-routed to another site, usually an advertiing site)
Yes, I **DO** use adaware, and spybot. AND it IS updated at regular intervals.......every day or so.......and the stuff STILL gets onto the machine. The pc is "disinfected" EVERY night and it STILL gets on.
I even had one that disabled adaware, and others that "hide" when the scan is started. I am so pissed off with all this unwanted shit that I have even considered violence towards the companies that promulgate this stuff.
Last night I found two diallers installed...fortunately, I'm broadband.
Trying to educate the kids to stop using crap music sites is painful, and is the main source of attempted virus attacks now.
Good luck, you'll need it.
