There has been an increase in the Ali G type accent which is more akin to Caribbean peoples. Now white youths are using this type of accent, and its developing language.
All this has been developed through the application of media and some great films and music.
The Rasta accent has been around longer, and much of it has been used in the development of urban/rapper/ Ali G talk. But somehow white youths took to the Ali G talk. It would have been unlikely back in the 70's and 80's to have found as many white youths using Rasta talk.

Whats your point marn?
sorry rolleyes
Oh yes the point. That an accent can be easily acquired, if one is immersed in a culture that uses it. Which is how we all learn our accents.
In this case it is acquired mainly through the media and the willingness of today's youth to make it their own language. That's for now though. It may well be followed by something else.
I think you should make it your own personal mission to make german or russian accents cool
What like Borat? Its the same guy as Ali G, but I am not sure he's going to change the next generation of youths with that character.

This is so very true.
I'm a Yorkshireman.
Sheffield born and bred - up to the age of 16.
During my early adult years I spent a great deal of time in what I would call a "mixed environment"
As and when I came back to Sheffield, people would comment that I didn't "sound" the same.
It got so "bad" that after some years, I found that I didn't have a dialect at all. But I could imitate most.
It wasn't until I transferred to a "Yorkshire" regiment that my dialect fully returned.
I was complimented that when I spoke in German, I did it without an English accent. A friend of mine that totally immersed himself in the German net for far too long and far too deeply had trouble speaking English without a German accent.

I'd quite happily speak russian to you but i know none.....i can speak a few other languages to you if you like ie english,, french, italian, australian, french x
Well if we need some Eastern European accents we could always have the Cheeky Girls back again. lol
Ho hum
I love australian/kiwi accents, had a guy ring me the other day and leave a message on my mobile (swoon)from a Stone/marble company and I have to ring him back this afternoon - can't wait, gonna go all silly!!
Geordies - mmm takes me back to a fantastic holiday romance aged 18 with a guy called Sean who was just so delicious
Winchy with you on russian, a beautiful language. In fact many Eastern european accents are lovely.
Now latin based languages, french, italian, spanish - mmmm lovely.
As for me, being a typical Surrey girl born and bred I have been told many times by non-Southerners and some Londoners that I sound posh  I think I just sound normal, but that's the beauty of accents.

I agree with you there pink, ive been told i have a lovelly accent, but personally i dont think the voice i use has much of an accent
Up until yesterday I had a serious thing for the Irish accent. North, south, wasn't bothered.
Yesterday we had a lot of trouble with Irish traveller kids in the shop where I work. Throwing stuff around the store, giving abuse to the customers and my staff.
When I asked them to leave, the eldest - 12/13 ish, told me he was going to bend me over the till point and shag me so hard I wouldnt know what had hit me!!!
Now if a grown man had said that to me in an Irish accent, I'd have bent over for him!!! But at that age, I just wanted to be sick!!!!
Put me off the accent for a while!!!

Awww, but they just don't do it for me honey. Mind you though, im deviating all the time- never had a thing for spanish accents until my neighbour spoke Spanish in front of me for the first time.
I was talking to his wife at the time- it was pretty damn embarrassing! We we're chatting away, he answered the phone in Spanish & I lost control of my limbs, brain & lips & just stood there, mouth open- dribbling.
Do you think she might have noticed? The worst bit is, Mr W keeps encouraging him 2 speak it- just to watch me turn into a jibbering idiot evil

Love all of those accents! :bounce: Instant turn on for me. We were out for lunch on Saturday to a great little cafe/diner we know that is owned and run by a lovely family from Kosovo. The men are sillyhwoar: and they kept talking in their native tongue to each other! I was very distracted listening to them!
I don't think I sound all that Scottish dunno I think that East coast and Highland Scots have more of the "typical" accent that people associate with Scotland but just my opinion biggrin

I originaly come from essex but think i have lost most of the accent over the last 5 years since moving, tho others tell me they can still hear it confused:
But when im drinking or in the comapny of others from my home ground i can def hear it coming back loud and proud. dunno
When i first moved up from essex to the lincolnshire/yorkshire border i got a job in a factory,it wasnt untill 5 weeks later when we all went out for a drink they told me they couldnt understand most of what id been saying since i started redface a combination of my accent plus i talked too fast!
Also found when i was out anywhere i.e b&q,postoffice, tesco ect as soon as i opened my mouth everyone stoped and looked...not sure if that was my accent or my foul mouth tho
Remember the builder's we had working on our first house up here said on day 2 on the job that they had never heard so much swearing in day surprisedops:
Im a little deaf so find it difficult to make out what some people are saying at the best of times, but a heavy accent can make it almost imposible for me to understand a word. I love hearing accents and a soft irish is def my favorite...russ can do a cool irish accent
