I have got a trapped nerve in my neck (the sorest thing ever) and was wondering if anyone had ever had acupunture for anything like this before and if it atucally worked. I have a football Trial in the morning for a new club and need to attend.
Tracy has booked me into a nearby clinic tonight and tomorrow morning to see if it will do anything for me.....
Anyone got any other helpful tips? Im in complete agony!!!!

Hiya david .. why not try going to see s chiropractor / osteopath ??/ i have had sever back pain for the last almost 4/5 months now .. attended physio for 3 months without much relief being had .. went to a chirpractor and within a week i had good results ..... ...only wish i had gone there earlier ... always an area to explore ..... and usualy instant relief ... good luck xx
i have just been givin a shiatsu massage by someone work. It has worked a trick....well recommeded !!!!!!!
I have a recurring trapped nerve in my neck. Never tried accupuncture - but heard great reports for that and other conditions.I had massage to loosen the stiff muscles caused by the pain., and traction to open the gap up a bit and relieve the pressure on the nerve itself. Worked a treat.
If you want to help yourself in the meantime, I strongly recommend taking max pain relief, standing under a hot shower directed at the neck itself, not the pain if it is in your arm or shoulder (which is misdirected pain from the nerve in your neck) and gently rotating your shoulders. Don't roll your head around it will just make it worse.
Imagine you have a felt tip pen poking horizontally out of your shoulders (wierd I know but bear with me) and try to draw little and then bigger circles with them. Keep your head in the correct posture without lifting your shoulders against the pain will help too. Trust me it will help while you get more permanent treatment.
Also watch out, don't hunch or go rigid just cos it hurts, keep best posture and relaxed shoulders all the time.
Hope it gets better soon, I went undiagniosed for 7 weeks and was in agony.
once we are both awake, me n den will give u some advice and clear up some of everyones misconceptions....
Well as I've mentioned I've had both Acupuncture and Shiatsu but I wouldn't ever recommend getting a 'Shiatsu' massage from somebody who wasn't both trained and qualified. Especially if you have an injury as it could make it worse in the long run or even do further damage.
Trained therapists should carry out therapy.
Golden message is to find out what caused the trapped nerve!
Many people who get a trapped nerve have bad posture or jobs where they sit badly, the work is repetetive or undertake sedentary activities for long periods (like driving and watching tv). Another group is those doing something physical that 'puts something out' and the swollen or displaced tissues therefore trap a nerve. Rarely the cause is congenital/ developmental but a doctor is the only one that might find that out? Only visiting someone who has got the experience to find out the cause is going to fix it for you. Who have you tried so far? Ultimately a scan is what you want but can be hard to get unless you are Rooney or Beckham!
Anything else is only temporary relief as you may be repeating the cause every day regardless of how fit and young you are and avoiding it only produces worse problems later on in my experience.

Sorry, should have read this thread better!
Second point I would like to make about this is that identifying the problem often needs visits to several people. With a similar problem I went to GP first and then several alternative practitioners and back to a GP and then a phsyiologist as I really had two problems - one masking the other. The point though was that none of these practiotioners were crap it is just really hard to find a cause for pain (which might not even arise from the area that appears to hurt).
As you go to different people it is really important that you find people recommended if you step out of the NHS route and if it is not their area of expertise they should be professional enough not to treat you and tell you so. A few practitioners are only too happy to take your money and temporarily relieve you of the problem but not willing to to admit that they are not curing you.
Like any problem giving it some attention makes it feel better but curing it or at least being able to self manage the problem is much better.
I am not knocking the complimentary / alternative medicine routes I've used them my self to good effect, I'd rather not see a debate about who is better than who it's horses for courses.
Oh and I have a vested interest to declare - I have friends in the trade so to speak!
Hope you get an answer soon as these things can take a while to sort out.
