Unplug everything from the telpehone line apart from the router if you can and then test, if this doesn't fix it try and plug the router into the BT master socket and disconnect all other wiring to extensions if you can. If this doesn't work, then it's likely a line or router fault. You need to prove it with another router and either replace the faulty one or call the helpdesk

Quick point, ADSL routers and modems don't need filters if there's nothing else on the line and a 'standard' dialup modem cable should work to plug the router into a BT socket for testing. The filter could well be the cause.
I used to have a Mentor router (wired) and didn't have too many problems of that type but mentioning Tiscali has brought this to my attention further. Since I've been "unbundled" to an LLU (using non-BT exchange equipment), I've had nothing but problems with connections & speed (when up). The chances are that a service outage that needs reporting, especially if you're not seeing the "Sync" LED light up shortlt after rebooting the router.

hi there,
that sounds familiar. we too have ben having a problem with our router and have been told to try a different one. however...
We have recently been upgraded and needed to reset our user name. our internet provider didnt tell us this.
she needs to ring her internet provider and find out her user name, along with the binary address for the router.
i know this sounds complicated and it is difficult to explain properly on here but she should have a helpline number for her provider who should be able to resolve this.
hope this helps
Maggie
There's a number of technical forums including one for Tiscali. I use the forum for my ISP regularly and it's full of useful advice. ;-)
Fixed it, turned out to be a duff cable from microfilter to router. It somehow had been caught and nicked.
Many thanks
