Ok, so what's the propper etiquette when you place an ad? We are hoping to set something up, we've placed an ad and are waiting for "Mr Right" lol but we're a bit green about all this.
But what do you do when you're looking for something specific? So far we've had a handful of responses, although only 2 (so far) fit what we specified (age wise) Do we wait and see what other replies we get or should we respond immediately?
I think i've got my work head on (recruitment) as I'm tempted to reply saying "thank you for your response, your application has been received and is under consideration, we will reply to all suitable applicants"!
What do you do?

You could always give them a preliminary "interview" with regard to a second "interview" where skills may be assessed!! lol

I guess it's an individual thing at the end of the day.
However, if they blatantly don't fit the criteria you've laid down then I'd 'no' them straight off - i.e they are 73 and in Aberdeen when you've asked for 30-45 and within 50 miles of Bristol. Otherwise you may end up moving the 'pass mark' which we know isn't good recruitment practice as then you may be taking the best (or worst) of a bad bunch! wink
You're welcome to borrow my little black book if you tell me what it is you're looking for :rascal: In fact, I could bring it down! lol
Good luck guys
I like Kaz's approach:
- A very short reply on receipt of the response. Even if they don't meet your criteria I think it's nice to say "Thanks for your interest but you're not quite what we're looking for.", or something simlar.
I reply to very few ads. Partly because I will only reply if I think I match the requirements (if I'm a borderline match then I say so in my response) and partly because I don't want to have dozens of responses on the go and get myself all confused . I'm always a little disappointed if I hear nothing at all because then I don't know whether there is a possible meet on the cards or not dunno. I'd much rather have a polite 'no' than silence.
- Your ad makes it clear that there will be a shortlist and that it will take some time to organise, so anyone who is expecting an immediate meet or a quick decision on who the lucky man is hasn't been paying attention.
Good luck - and I hope you have fun.
Thanks for all the advice guys. It's much appreciated.
I think we'll do as has been suggested and reply with a short "thanks but no thanks" on the ones who don't fit the criteria, a polite "not what we're looking for" to the ones who aren't for me and a "thanks for your reply, we'll be in touch" to the possibles.
Bloody hell, it's hard work this swinging malarkey isn't it! lol
BIoke - I bet your little black book would make the mind boggle  You're more than welcome to bring it over any time tho wink
