need some advice i think...
just come home from a night out at a swinging club and had a whale of a time (pervy points ahoy) but something has just happened on the way home and it has left me dazed a bit..
taxi home was going okay.... till suddenly what we think may be a badger runs right in front of it... next thing i hear is a horrible great "thump" on the front, there is nothing he could have done....
anyway I didn't know where we were till i got up to the junction... only 2 minutes from home...
so anyway he drops me off... I, shocked as hell, immediately ring the rspca, taxi driver said he was going to check on the way home...
I thought we had done the right thing
now i am feeling a bit shocked and guilty that we didn't stop, and because we didn't the rspca can't get out to check what state it was in.....
this whole thing has spooked me big time......
I am quite a sappy person anyway... i feel like if i hadn't been there it wouldn't have happened....
i don't know what i am asking... before you all ask, no, not touched a drop of alcohol all night... just in a state of shock i think...
sorry if i am rambling on... just in a semi state of shock i think
sean
awww hun i feel for you in the morning call the taxi company to see if the driver had gone back to look and also if there is any further news if the driver found anything
badgers are a hardy breed of animal and am sure that its just shocked and bruised at the least at worst i hope it was a quick ending for it
you did right calling the rspca as they are a protected animal but i also wonder why they didnt go out and have a look for themselves
hope you feel better in yourself in the cold light of day and perhaps go out yourself to see if there is any evidence of what happened in the daylight
Fabs, I'd have to go back for a look. It's awful I know - I felt awful when a pheasant flew and hit my car once. I'm surprised the RSPCA couldn't go and look at least, if you could actually narrow down the area.
Fabs .. understand how you feel as a courier had this situation a few times .........
.....
Go back and take a shovel with you, and if it is dead bury it at the side of the road.
If it's alive, ring the Rspca again.
I was thinking about this thread - and realised that when we hit a pheasant I was only concerned if it had damaged the car. I'm pretty sure I would care more if it was a fox or badger.
I wonder why that is - maybe cos I see pheasants as food and foxes and badgers as 'proper' animals.
Also pheasants are inherently stupid - appearing to wait by the road-side until a car comes and then running madly across the road right in front of it.
Badger Stew
To cook one badger you'll need:
1 badger
1 glass of pig's blood
1 small glass of armagnac
1 ginger root
1 bottle of dry, sparkling white wine
2 eggs
1 pot of crème fraîche
salt and pepper
500g forest mushrooms OR chestnuts to accompany
100g butter
oil
Eviscerate and skin your badger, and soak it in a fast-flowing river for at least 48 hours. This will help you to de-grease it more easily.
Once the badger is de-greased, cut it into pieces and brown it in a frying pan with butter. When the pieces are golden and stiff, flambée with the armanac, season and add a grated soup-spoon of ginger, fresh if possible.
Pour over the wine, and simmer gently for at least two hours.
At the end of the cooking time, mix the chopped badger liver (cooked beforehand in a little oil), the glass of blood, two egg yolks, a coffee-spoon of ginger and the crème fraîche, and pour into the cooking dish. Serve immediately.
This dish goes well with wild mushrooms or chestnuts.
Wot? dunno
Sorry fabio, I couldn't resist but times are hard right now and why not?
Joking aside, I'm bad even when I hit a rabbit or something. I guess there's just something more noble about Badger's though. Well, to me, there is.
biggrin x
I just wrote an essay and lost it!!
Go back to where it happened and check. Then phone the RSPCA back and insist!
OK you were not driving, the badger was hit by the taxi (why do we spell taxi with an i) not you. If the badger is still alive do not touch it, they are strong, and bite. Yes call the RSPCA, but they are not going to spend alot of time looking for it if it has removed it's self from the scene.
If you would like to know more about the badger try here

As for the taxi driver, I do hope he new it was a badger?
