I must admit that 'shouty' profiles turn me off.
I do think that repeated comments like NO SINGLE MALES etc are rude; the implication that people can't read and understand the first time and without the aid of capitalisation is a tad arrogant.
Now, before I get flamed for being unhelpful, I know that there are some who approach the site in a cut and paste/scattergun fashion, and who do not take time to read profiles properly. I don't think anyone is denying that.
However, I see my profile (and by extension, everyone else's) as a shop window in which to advertise myself - to show my best side, if you will. I would therefore never choose to type in shouty capitals - or arrogantly assume that folk can't read and need instructing more than once. I want to put forward my good points, not annoy or patronise people.
I think that is the issue here: some of us (because I find myself nodding in agreement with the OP, with Bloke, Res and several others) find certain profile types unnecessarily rude/aggressive/arrogant even.
Flower is right; if we don't like a profile, we can just move on. That doesn't mean that we can't join in a debate in here with our opinions though, does it?
But hey, without the weird and wonderful diversity of this place (forum and profiles included lol) life would be dull!
Peace out y'all.
Oh, and happy profile perving one and all! wink

case in point, a guy who says he's near to me has just pm'd me 4 times all within minutes. within those 4 mails he said hi in the first, asked me for a meet in the second, gave me 2 phone numbers and offered to collect me in the last.
he's just hillarious

Well you could (if you were that way inclined), go back through the archives as far as you like, and see complaints and moans about single men on this forum. A very large percentage of these posts are made by couples and nearly all are aimed at staight single guys, which is the catagory I come under these days. Perhaps these people have had such experiences that they feel the need to warn others, I bet many of them are just making up shit because the presence of straight single men make little hubby insecure. The generalisation involved and the amount of sweeping statements used suggest the latter. Perhaps we need some kind of kangaroo court, whereby genuine offenders can be named and shamed, that way their actions wouldn't reflect on the rest of us, and the onus would be on the accuser to back up their post with names and proof.
Couples, bless em, do have the advantage over single fellas here, there is no need to rub it in. And while while I'm here, I get the ocasional pm from gay guys who think that because I'm in Brighton and single I might be up for some of that. it is anoying because I don't get many pm's, 99% of the females a couples I write to don't bother to reply. So I see the arival of a message and go see imediately, well one lives in hope, and it's some dude wanting to meet me in the public toilet somewhere. I don't complain, there are no shouty or rude comments about gay guys on my profile, I just politely send a reply telling them it is not my thing. I guess what I'm trying to say is do unto others.

Sounds almost as aggresive as some of the profiles in question to me ;-)
if mine were to read:
Fuck off, all a ya!
...would that be acceptable?
lp
the ones that make me laugh..are when they say
NO TIMWASTERS......if you timewaster leave us alone and go annoy someone else.
err..as if a timewaster is gona say.....oh they not interested in me..so won't bother with them..lol.

could save on pms I'm aware of the concept, though not something I particularly am plagued by... being a timewaster and all that!!

bloke i get what you are saying, i really do. but also is not 'no single males' a choice on the persons part? this is what i was trying to say to the op. it's not always just about rubbishing the single male, but about wanting couples or females. guys should just respect that.

yes it is whips..... and no one is saying anything otherwise... but like lost said earlier. there is a difference between
"no single males/we are not looking at this time"
and
"NO SINGLE MALES!!!WE ARE NOT INTERESTED!!!CAN YOU NOT READ!!!!!"
the latter for me is bordering on condesending, arrogent, rude and obnoxious
if someone like that contacts with a profile like that (and it is surprising what people do send) I am not shy is telling them why I say no
manners and politness cost nothing.... first impressions do last, and if you are getting replies to profiles I am sure that some people do go back and do reading.......

go look at my profile ..... is that aggressive? to me it states what i do and dont do and saves me repeating myself constantly in the chat room. However a few , mostly guys have said its harsh and had a bit of a moan. To me its sensible what u think???? should i change my name to little miss agressive?

Just perved it what are Nos 4 and 11?

We agree - Hate it when you see things sich as NO SINGLE MALES - SINGLE MALES WILL BE IGNORED - DO YOU UNDERSTAND NO SINGLE MALES!! And lots of others in a similar vein.
Just a simple "Please note we are not entertaining single men" Should suffice. If then you get unsolicited mail/attention from them you can ignore with impunity.

Makes me laugh when I'm in chat and I see couples or blokes with profiles like this (usually in the gay/bi rooms) who are specifically looking for meets with single males....and there's the other old chestnut of the profile saying "not remotely bi, don't ask me because a smack in the chops often offends" and there they are on cam trying for a meet with another bloke. If you ask them about it they usually say something along the lines of "does my profile really say that?" or "oh yes, it needs updating".
As Woo would say, pish!

OOh i missed this fabulous thread.
I agree with bloke.
Id like to add that although I dont get inundated with unwanted attention (ie from folk that the profile says we aren't looking for), minx does and seems to find it easy enough to politely and humorously point out that we aren't interested.
I occasionally get propositioned by people in chat that aren't on my wish list or who have sexual tastes that I don't share. The same thing happens to me in real life. I feel flattered to be honest.
Desperate is one of those words that I don't use very much.
A kind of judgemental word used mainly by those who think they are gorgeous to describe folk they think are less gorgeous than they.
If somebody finds me attractive and takes the trouble to say so I am genuinely flattered.
