Duty free isnt the same as nail scissors we have to take any sharp objects off people and thats not a new thing thats been around for years and like i say duty free is cheaked so that it is only what it says on the bottle in there.
Doesnt matter what airport u go though in the uk if they find any sort of sharp object on u they will telll u to either cheak it in, send it to your self or hand it over to be binned.
Most of these rules are there for your safty and please please please remember when u do fly we didnt make up these rules so please dont be nasty to the safe we are only doing our job, last week a woman spat on me because i took her shampoo off her it was 250ml ffs why care it in your hand luggage thats all ill ask of anyone if you do decide to take any thing u shouldnt and u get caught please dont get nasty with the safe when it is taken off you like i said we have to its our job and if we let you have it we will get the sack. rolleyes

The current list on BAA web site, or check DIRECT with your airport.

Personally I think you got off lightly!!

no, duty free isn't the same as nail scissors, it's far more dangerous, molotov cocktail anyone, or what damage you can do with a broken bottle, lot more than you can with nail scissors. and then they trot out the emotive argument "it's for your safety". like cokscrews, ok somebody got killed by one, not an easy thing to do I hasten to add, so it's banned. people have been killed with bootlaces, don't see them taking them off people. just sledgehammers and nuts spring to mind. can understand the weapons and explosives etc but spoons ffs

thanks Sarah for the link- didn't know you couldn't take your lippy in your handbag now
I went through MCR and got asked if I had any liquids in my bag. "no" says me. "are you sure" says she. "Yes" says me. I then got a look that said clear as day "how can you possibly travel without a bag full of makeup?" or similar. I thought it was hilarious.
I also saw bin fulls of prefectly good drink being thrown away because people (and they were largely English speakers too) were too stupid to read the signs right in front of their noses. And then they argue that they (just they presumably) should be allowed to take their drinks through. Some of us have planes to catch ffs.
What also gets me is the number of people who try (and too often succeed) to take whopping great bag on as hand luggage. I know Ryan Air charge for hold luggage but those planes are wayyyyyy too crowded for anything bigger than an overnight case.
Personally the only thing I would change is that I want to be frisked by the cute fella at security instead of the fierce looking woman. :lol2:
On flying to Paris last year just after the new security checks, the security was extra tight at Charles De Guale (sp?)
Anyway, When we initially checked our luggage in, we went through the questioning etc- and had to go through the security with the xray machine for our hand luggage as normal to get into the departure lounge.
Then, when we actually got to our gate, to get into that, there was another xray machine for the hand luggage and beeper for us, followed by every single persons bags being serched.
Finally, just on boarding the plane- our bags were searched AGAIN.
It wasn't until THIS point that the final checker found the guy in front of us to still have his toiletry bag- razors and spare blades, toothpaste, deoderant shaving foam bottled water aftershave etc.
He was very disappointed at having to leave it all practically on the run way!
How did that happen? Even with 2 xray and 1 bag search previously? How did he get past?
Also, how the hell did he not realise all the extra security was going on- all the notices saying what you're not allowed- being asked at the very start of luggage check in to make sure all toiletries went into hold luggage!
It just goes to show you that things do slip through!
As for poppy seeds- pmsl!!!!!!!!!!!
m xx
it does appear that different airports have different rules then/
heathrow the other week was having everyone remove their shoes to be xrayed.
and after the normal security, there was aditional random searches of peoples bags.
just a point about tweezers, as far as i have known, tweezers have been banned from hand luggage for years.
every single airport i have flown from has had a no tweezer policy.
a point i would like to make though, all this extra rules does not make us any safer.
i flew into heathrow today, prob one of the biggest terrorist target airports and yet we could have done anything!!!
i was quite flustered and had put two full 500 ml bottles of pop into tongueys hand luggage.
we were asked the normal questions and had said we had no other liquids asside from our small sandwich bags.
the vase went through the scanner and they picked nothing up.
it was only 2 hours later on the plane that i opened the bag and found the bottles!
now that was a genuine error on our part, but how did they not pick it up?
whats the point of all this inconveniece if people can still take the stuff through?
This is one of the biggest night mares we are having agents not doing thier job properly so when a agent does do their job properly they are the ones that get the abuse off the passangers I no its a night mare and the best thing you can do is only have your pastport boarding and money in your hand luggage all the rest put in your case it would make life easier for you and the airport.
Maybe its just me? ........... but I have to tune in every night just to read this thread!
I love it and I am not sure why ........ but it really makes me giggle :giggle:

I am such a good girl. I turned up at the airport last month with three little bottles (essentials - lip balm, hand wash antiseptic and something else I can't remember), neatly packed into my zipped bag ready for inspection. :smug:
We walked straight passed hundred of others all panicking and taking stuff out and stuffing them into small plastic bags. :smug:
Smug me? lol

????? dunno
yes, seeing as contact lens solution is also a liquid- so long as its under 100mls of the stuff and you put it in your clear plastic bag thang- then you're fine! .....ain't that tricky wink
Although i see exactly what you mean about the bottle of vodka- i still reckon, where there's a will, there's a way for a terrorist!
