Ive alays loved the sight smell and sounds of the funfair. Although i have found them to be a place i feel suspiciuos in. Always worried someone is ripping me off or that i may get my pockets picked. I dont get this in crowded streets or markets though wonder why?
i like the hot dogs and the candy floss.
The classic twirl things where they spin you round really fast while its turning.
The old ghost train.
can you still win goldfishes?
Yes you can still win goldfish - not sure what the law is on this. Don't suppose goldfish are deemed to be that important.
I love the sounds and smells - thumping bass, cheesy tunes, people squealing and shouting, everything mixed up with the delicious aroma of hotdogs, candy floss and muddy grass.
I used to love all the rides - the scarier the better - until I had my daughter. Then I got "the fear". I'm scared to cross the bloody road these days!
What was once fun, a dance of light and sound is now just noise. Some when along the way, I am not sure when they lost their magic.
.. but I do remember Beatles badges, dodge cars and a girl friend. No a friend who was a girl. Living the night up on less than a fiver.
...and one ride in a far of place with woman. Perhaps it was her lack of intrest in the world spinning around that contributed toward my lack of intrest in funfairs. No I just grew up.
Every June Newcastle has "the hoppings" said to be the largest fair in Europe.
At least 60 big rides and 120 sideshows. You can spend A LOT of money there!!
Still like walking round it for the atmosphere, but had my fill of the rides long time ago.

Only time I go to the fair is at the Great Dorset Steam Fair. A great mix of vintage and mordern travelling rides, Wall of Death and other side shows. Dont go on the rides myself, but I love standing and watching the idiots scaring th s*it out of themselves while I have a pint of scrump and a burger. Saw one very patient and compassionate side show owner help a disabled boy "win" some prizes on his cork gun stall, so they aren`t all rip-off merchants.
Love the noise and the smell of deisel generators & greasy food . . . plus you gotta dig the super loud cheesy chipmunk house music.
Scream if you wanna go faster, stay seated on the ride or you will die . . . Shabba!
oh i could tell some storys if i wanted too, I could give you a insight to a day in the life as a worker, Ive done the work on a casual basis before
You cant beat the smell of the generators and the smells even after the fair has pulled off the ground and gone the smell lingers for a while,
A good memory of mine was whilst helping on the dodgems one year the lad i was working with trying to be flash stepping from one car to another went to step on to a passing car and the lad driving it swerved so he fell and then another came sand bumped him up the bum and he fell over.
was a time i was standing on top of the dodgem roof one evening there pretty bouncy up there stepping over the frames that support the nets couldnt see one late night and straight into a big puddle of water then i nearly dropped the end rounding board on to the floor wouldnt of been to clever.
went with the kids tonight. Not bad for the price, some decent rides - thrill ones weren't bad and the medium ones were fun too.
Allin one price was OK, but watch out gor the extras, all the stalls are + a go and food/drink is a bit pricey but not a bad place, we had a good time.
And not big queues tonight either, never more than 5/10 minutes.
