The funfair is in town by us as from tommorow biggrin So who likes and who dislikes fairs? whats your fave ride? Anyone got any funny funfair storys? I have always loved em and they have been in mine and Mrs Tweekys relationship since the start with one of the first places we ever went together being Alton towers smile Anyone brave enough to post thier ride pics?
This is whats by us now so if anyones going let us know wink
Ive alays loved the sight smell and sounds of the funfair. Although i have found them to be a place i feel suspiciuos in. Always worried someone is ripping me off or that i may get my pockets picked. I dont get this in crowded streets or markets though wonder why?
i like the hot dogs and the candy floss.
The classic twirl things where they spin you round really fast while its turning.
The old ghost train.
can you still win goldfishes?

Thats gotta be the Walzers!!!! yeah cool i like them too but do ya notice the operators spin the cars with the teenage girls in the most ! mad
Yes you can still win goldfish - not sure what the law is on this. Don't suppose goldfish are deemed to be that important.
I love the sounds and smells - thumping bass, cheesy tunes, people squealing and shouting, everything mixed up with the delicious aroma of hotdogs, candy floss and muddy grass.
I used to love all the rides - the scarier the better - until I had my daughter. Then I got "the fear". I'm scared to cross the bloody road these days!
Sorry to seem like a killjoy here, but to me 'Fun Fair' = Ripoff
dunno guess i'm just old

Same here Pete so I must be old too rolleyes
I don't like rides anyway but I'm not paying a fortune to be scared shiteless thanks :lol2:
I love the sights, but also agree can be expensive.
Dodgems lol
What was once fun, a dance of light and sound is now just noise. Some when along the way, I am not sure when they lost their magic.
.. but I do remember Beatles badges, dodge cars and a girl friend. No a friend who was a girl. Living the night up on less than a fiver.
...and one ride in a far of place with woman. Perhaps it was her lack of intrest in the world spinning around that contributed toward my lack of intrest in funfairs. No I just grew up.
I don't like funfairs or theme parks because A: they can be a rip off though I agree these people have to make money like the rest of us and B: I'm a wimp and don't like things that move my stomach into my mouth and threaten to regurgitate my brekkie confused

come to the fair with me then losty, i'll wear a low cut top so we get spun REALLY fast lol
i love any ride thats gives an adrenaline rush through speed but i do have a soft spot for the waltzers, it was the first ride i ever went on as a kid, my aunt took me onn and we got spun so fast i puked when i got off, then cried to go back on lol ( i was 3 at the time )
I used to like them as a kid but dislike them now only because of the ridiculous prices that are charged for children (erm and adults) having a bit fun. They should do it like other fun parks, a one off fee to get in and all rides free and go on as many times as you wish lol

  I love the rides and stuff but this country seems to have got it all wrong with fun fairs these days and are just a rip off, and has been said I watch my pockets.
Been to fairs in germany and spain and they were great value for money, Last year in mijas they has a childrens day all the rides were 1 euro for the night. fantastic and safe enviroment, leaves a lot to be said about ours.
has anyone ever organsied an SH day out to one of the theme parks before ?

Money seems to have come up again and again here not really what I was expecting but guess I must have my 2 pence on it. Funderwolrd on the link above is a one off enterance price if I remember rightly we went last year but we had free tickets aquired from the radio station. I imagine there is one good reason why the prices are more now and thats that there are probably a lot more stringent health and safety rulings that have to adherred too. We dont see any fun fiars here like we use too the ones where it stops at the end of the road for a week ran buy people who looked like gypos and cleaned up sick with a rag. Where you could see rusty bolts and hear squeaky seats and look at the rather dodgy looking safety guards surprised As a kid those things dont bother you but I am certain I wouldent want to put my little one on some of the things I went on. Theme parks are a different issue you are going for a one off day out sometimes for a special occasion and its nearly always more than just rides as attractions. Taking it into account I dont think theme parks are overpriced compared to other one off attractions.
People who grew up, I dunno where this came in I mean I still watch loony tunes and play computer games is there an age at which I should stop?
More fun stuff biggrin who likes roller coasters I am a coaster freak love the nemesis at Alton towers havent been in many years for any of the newer ones, are they any good? The Oblivion also at Alton towers I have been on once , dont like the pause at the top one bit so never going on it again lol but its an experience thats for sure.
EDIT: Just thought to add this

Ah well you see thats different I would class that as a movable mini theme park NOT a funfair and the prices look good to. We only get the charter fairs which are the ones as you say stop for a few days and move on with stupid prices and very short ride times.
funderworld looks like the one in mijas we went to, and I cant see as I would have a problem with going, especially as its one price entry. You know what kids are like they dont know when the money has run out because they spent it all in the first 30 mins.
I have not been to Alton towers in years but would happily go again, and on most of the rides I'm just a big kid really.
Every June Newcastle has "the hoppings" said to be the largest fair in Europe.
At least 60 big rides and 120 sideshows. You can spend A LOT of money there!!
Still like walking round it for the atmosphere, but had my fill of the rides long time ago.
John & Shel
Only time I go to the fair is at the Great Dorset Steam Fair. A great mix of vintage and mordern travelling rides, Wall of Death and other side shows. Dont go on the rides myself, but I love standing and watching the idiots scaring th s*it out of themselves while I have a pint of scrump and a burger. Saw one very patient and compassionate side show owner help a disabled boy "win" some prizes on his cork gun stall, so they aren`t all rip-off merchants.
I don't go on the rides at funfairs...ever! I'd just puke! And I don't like heights  confused
So all in all, probably not the best kind of day out for me lol

 we were there last year and Jay and I had a giggle watching the kids on the rides and wondering just how many couples around us could be swingers.. you just never know do you? lol
Love the noise and the smell of deisel generators & greasy food . . . plus you gotta dig the super loud cheesy chipmunk house music.
Scream if you wanna go faster, stay seated on the ride or you will die . . . Shabba!

hey there Mrs Darkly gorgeous wink
There in a minute kid lol after me mrs that is ( she does wear the boots honest)
Think that like you its the first 'real' ride i can remember. So i sort of hold it high esteem. And its the first ride i made errrm let my kids ride!
Ok so this is weird but bare with me. Most times i'm an Ok guy but!! I do get a little kick out of seeimg people puke after rides evil and i really enjoy watching people puke after too much drink  ( i live in an alternate world
)
I love rides :bounce: Not to keen on travelling fairs for safety reasons, but take me to a theme park and :bounce:
Usually, I end up riding alone- as Mr W is a wuss, and apart from the eldest (even bigger wuss) the kids were too small. However, my TKD "crew" did Fright Night at Thorpe Park last year- and it was a blast. Whilst everyone else was wussing in the 7 Maze- I was leading a conga! lol
There were about 10 of us queuing for Stealth, and whilst most of them were threatening to wimp out & feeling sick, myself & one guy were bouncing up & down like loonies because we could barely wait.....I am a thrill seeker!

We use to have Bob Wilsons traveling fair visit in Bristol when I was little. One year we all waiting in line for the Ski jump and people kept being sick on it sad At times the guy would use his old rag and bucket to clean up right away and on other time he would leave that seat closed and the next riders would ride meaing that the whole time it was going round it was spraying sick into the crowd, vile. Anyway through all of this one of our friends Matthew laughed and laughed he seemed to think all this sick was the funniest thing in the world. The ride stops we are about 3rd in line were getting on this time smile and yep someone has been ill again, was getting worried about the seats by this time had my nice jeans on  Matthew is again laughing his head off when over comes the guy with bucket and sick rag and yep blammo sick rag right in his face :gagged: still one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen.

Its no problem I bounce naturaly as a bi product of movement boink
oh i could tell some storys if i wanted too, I could give you a insight to a day in the life as a worker, Ive done the work on a casual basis before
You cant beat the smell of the generators and the smells even after the fair has pulled off the ground and gone the smell lingers for a while,
A good memory of mine was whilst helping on the dodgems one year the lad i was working with trying to be flash stepping from one car to another went to step on to a passing car and the lad driving it swerved so he fell and then another came sand bumped him up the bum and he fell over.
was a time i was standing on top of the dodgem roof one evening there pretty bouncy up there stepping over the frames that support the nets couldnt see one late night and straight into a big puddle of water then i nearly dropped the end rounding board on to the floor wouldnt of been to clever.
went with the kids tonight. Not bad for the price, some decent rides - thrill ones weren't bad and the medium ones were fun too.
Allin one price was OK, but watch out gor the extras, all the stalls are + a go and food/drink is a bit pricey but not a bad place, we had a good time.
And not big queues tonight either, never more than 5/10 minutes.

Tell me about it, we went to Brighton last week and the rides on the pier were £3 each  and that was only for the little kids rides, and having three to pay for each time I agree with Pete.
Although I do love a funfair, im not fond of going on the rides (the waltzer did my neck in a while ago)but I do like the hook the duck, shooting gallery games etc lol
Ohh and dont forget the candyfloss.
