those macines measure your BMI, which is pretty rubbish.
If you went on one and it said you were the correct weight, and then went to the gym for a year and put on a stone of muscle it would say you were a stone overweight!! so, no it doesnt mean your fat at all!
Most bodybuilders come in as grossly obese on the bmi scale with less than 5% body fat!!

I'm going to make you feel pretty good about yourself in a moment. smile
I'm also 6'2"
I weigh (312lbs or 22st 4lbs for the luddites amongst you), or at least I did last Friday.
I have a 52" chest and a 42-44" waist (closer to 44 at the moment, but I have trouble getting my leg muscles into jeans with a 42" waist, even when they'll definitely fit around the waist*).
Body fat % the last time I measured it: ~20% (not in great condition but not so overweight as to be a problem for my health).
I'll admit I'm currently cutting back on the cream cakes and crisps at the moment, but only because I'd prefer to be at around 14-16% body fat, which would require me to lose about a stone to a stone and a half of fat, without putting on any muscle or connective tissue. According to BMI, I would need to lose 9 stone (126lbs or57kg) to be 'healthy'. Not sure how I'd be able to do that, short of cutting off a couple of limbs. lol
A set of accurate digital scales that can measure body fat (and body water) might be a good investment. They'll give you a much better idea of your condition than you'd get from knowing your weight alone, and I was able to find a set on eBay for just over £20.
*Imagine the Incredible Hulk ripping out of his clothes. The effect is visually striking, but not conducive to walking, at least not without permanent damage to my undercarriage. sad

I am 5'11" and close to 17 stone..
36/38" waist and a 44" chest...
I am clinically obese but I would not term myself as fat at all....
I doubt anyone who knows me would either dunno
I could do with losing a few lbs and toning up a bit but certainly not fat....

If he's a doctor, no wonder he thinks he's screwed - the medical profession know a lot less than most people give them credit for, and in this case their reliance on a 150 year+ old measure that was designed to be applied to populations not individuals (BMI) means that they really don't have a clue if somebody's over, under, or about the right weight. They just keep giving out the same old figures with a disclaimer that they're only useful if you happen to be completely average.

I'm probably about two stone overweight - I'm 6'0 tall and about 15 and a half stone. I don't put weight on but I find it hard to lose weight, despite eating reasonably healthily and exercising.
If you find it hard to lose weight, and you don't smoke, and drink reasonably, it might be worth asking your doctor to put you on statins, to reduce your cholesterol level. This will reduce the risk of your having heart trouble and strokes. It's worth having your blood pressure and cholesterol levels checked regularly anyway.

I’m not sure I subscribe to the “if you’re happy about it then its ok” mantra. There is enough medical opinion that being overweight is not good for you to make me want to do something about it … just to make sure that I get every moment out of this life that I can, …. after all there is no heaven or afterlife (but that’s another topic eh?)
Sooooooo could medical opinion be wrong?
Probably not in general terms ….. but aren’t we all individuals? Each person should know whether their body can handle the additional weight.
With regards to you question “am I fat” … if you look like you do in the profile pics then no (and it might be taken that you are fishing for compliments) if you have put on weight since the pictures then put new ones up and we will be able to give an informed opinion.
Out of interest I am 5’11 and ½” (the ½ is important), 32” waist and a 40” chest and weigh 86 kilos but I have been told to try and lose weight by my doctor as I am just on the top end of the “ideal range” (Just over 12 months ago I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes. My cholesterol was high for a diabetic (normal if I didn’t have diabetes and it is now down to ok). Blood pressure was/is excellent. I eat healthily and I walk around 5 miles a day and double that at weekend).
Soooooooo I am not fat, but I need to do something to improve my health …. Other people may be “fat” and healthy with it
(was that a circular argument?)

It's worth having your blood pressure and cholesterol levels checked regilarly anyway.

I got this done last year and thankfully my cholesterol was within normal limits but my blood pressure is low, always has been, so I can get a bit dizzy sometimes especially after doing certain exercises at the gym confused
When they checked me, I think I had a BMI of 18 but not entirley sure if thats good/ bad or indifferent dunno
Since going to the gym I've put on 2lbs  I keep telling myself its extra muscle cause the whole point was to lose a couple of pounds! rolleyes
Anyway freimation, your profile pics look good even if it was a long time ago

Its increased bone density hun- start doing any impact exercise & your bone density increases initially, which means you gain a little weight. Thats why it's reccommended to decrease the risk of Osteoporosis.
But don't try to lose weight! You are a vision of perfection, and I hate you.

I agree, but... so often people who are overweight feel they have to conform to society's view that they must be slimmer to be beautiful. I'm sorry but beauty comes from within, personality and nice qualities are important also. I know a lot of people who are overweight but are actually happy to be so and they are so attractive. I've overheard people say "she is so pretty if she were slimmer she would be stunning..!" why??
And of course I agree, medically speaking some people do have to lose weight, but in the case of Freimation I wouldn't have thought he had anything to worry about.

can I just point out that muscle *doesn't* weigh more than fat - its just more dense.....
So a 1lb piece of fat would be three times bigger than a 1lb piece of muscle....
This is why people with a low body fat percentage can look smaller than someone who is of an equivalent height and weight... the muscle just takes up less room...
Am not patronising anyone, I just find the whole 'muscle weighs more than fat' misconception SO annoying!
Best thing to do to assess yourself in terms of 'fatness' (a term I'm not comfortable with) is to have a body fat percentage analysis done, which is sounds like you have done :-)
I think as long as you are happy and reasonably healthy its all good :-)
