Hi all
Mrs Fry and I are going to Amsterdam next week, any advice as to where to go? (once there), what to see? where to smoke? ect...we have never been before and although we can get the guide books I am far to cheap to buy one wink and i believe that personal recommendation would be better and make for a more intresting 3 days biggrin
many thanks
Fry1
Hi Ya,
Me and Mr Tigs have been to Amsterdam for the last two years and intend to go back again later this year.
There are plently of coffee shops in the red light district, which is to the left hand side of amsterdam, when you come out of central station. Ones we got recommended to though was 'Barneys', they do a fantastic breakfast and the obvious ;), and the greenhouse which is in the red light district.
If you go on any search engine and type in swingers clubs there is quite a few in Amsterdam, we never got round to going to any swingers clubs last type by hope to get there this year biggrin
If you go into any of the shops along the main street, you can pick up a guide called 'The Smokers Guide' it is very cheap but a god send and tells you everything that you need to know
Have a great time
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
thanks for the info :P . We are so looking forward to time away on our own (kids staying with mother).
any more info anyone
Amsterdam is a great place. Just wander around and see what you find! Have fun.
Yes, go to your local library! Plenty of guide books there, no charge, also a photocopier usually if you want to copy specific pages but normally you can check books out for a couple of weeks or more. You are not going to enjoy Amsterdam half as much if you are not prepared for it with maps, places to go, sights to see.
For example, would you enjoy a brewery tour with free beer and nibbles?
Or would the Mrs enjoy a diamond factory tour?
What about a visit to Anne Frank's house?
Or a cruise in the canals?
Wouldn't you like to find out the story behind Amsterdam's narrowest house? And how do people ever manage to get their furniture in?
Amsterdam is much more than smoke cafes.
A warning: beware of your belongings when at a smoke cafe. My friend went there on a work jolly and one girl had her handbag stolen along with ticket, passport and money. She was not allowed to leave the country before supplying proof of identity. And she had to explain to the British consulate the circumstances under which her bag was stolen...
Thank you
Yes to free beer and diamonds and history and canals. The cafes are, i hope, a happy bonus at the end of sight seeing heaven. More more more please what did YOU enjoy and what is a rip off?. Is saftey an issue? How can I give Mrs Fry1 the best 3 days (Its our first wedding an anniversary)
Well seeing how it is your anniversary, you have to take her to one of the better hotels and treat her to a Dame Blanche ice cream. It is vanilla ice cream that is served with a sauce boat of hot chocolate sauce, a WHOLE boat!!!! One of my best memories in Amsterdam. lol And of course you must stop and taste smoked eel at one of the stands by the canals. And don't turn your noses up on Dutch breakfast either, it is delicious. Have you found a place to stay?
This question is asked almost monthly. Type Amsterdam in the search facility at the top of this page.
