Annonomous Telephone Calls

Most people will no doubt receive them at some point or another.... but what really got me on this occasion was the fact that it was a female... she hesitated, then as I'm yelling "yello anyone there" down the phone... she quietly said "Pauline" to which I replied "yeah..... hello" then a fumble and then a dead line.........
Why... if she knew it was me why not speak... what on earth does someone have to gain by phoning from a withheld number, and then saying nothing... confused

I often get calls to my landline and no one is there... which gets annoying, but to call my mobile and start too... dunno

I just don't understand that.
This person obviously know's who I am... and as I use this place as the sole place of my social life aswell as my place to have my fun, I was just kinda hoping that it may give the person the oppertunity to get back in touch.
Also it also gives others the oppertunity to have a rant about nuisance phone calls.... biggrin

Please if it was you who called... please get back in touch. :?

You can ask BT to set up your line to not accept 'witheld' numbers - the caller gets a recorded message telling them to ring back without witholding their number, and that's easy to do - just dial 1470 before calling the number!
Oh - and it wasn't me!!

keep an Air horn at the side of your phone........ then when ya get an annoying call of any nature............ pHHWWAARRRRPPPP, they won't do it twice lol

Replace air horn with Steve Mids and that will work just as effectively biggrin

Just wait until she calls again, and when she says your name, say "Yes?" rather than "Yeah! Hello!" :grin:

I did actually think to myself.... "was it the accent that put her off" redface

but then it coulda been me yelling hello 3 bloody times down the phone...
Maybe I've put too much thought into this... but it actually sounded very much like another half of a couple checking up on numbers in someones phone confused

I hope its just a case of me looking into this too much though surprised

I got an email onse from a fem asking how often this guy had mailed me.
and how i knew him .
deffo a wife me thinks checking up .
i just said he mailed me 1s well he did :shock:

You could alternatively do what I do - Record a Voicemail message - something along the lines of Hi - I am either busy, or you are calling from a withheld number, either leave me a message, or call back from a non withheld number, and i will get back to you.
You notice I never mention my name in the message - seems to work for me - either they hang up, leave a message, or call back and don't withold - either way - I've achieved my aim.
Of course I'm lucky in as much as i can find out the number calling - be it withheld or not. One of the benefits of the job i do I suppose!
Anyway - that's what I do!

Annon calls - once got an annon call at my office which turned out to be the horniest call that I have ever had. Wasn't that I simply didn't know who was on the other end, more to do with the fact that she semed to know every little thing about me in terms of what I like to do and have done. Bugged me for ages after, the fact that someone could spend all that time telling me what she would like to do to me and even though she evidently knew me and clearly how approachable I was, but never made any effort to put into practice all the carefully articulated scenarios and actions - one of lifes great regrets!!

well she was inspired to make the call in the first place and I certainly didn't 'burst her bubble' so to speak when she was talking - shame - never could quite understand it.

Hi tatty, regarding calls you get that have a silence before hanging up, these could be sales/marketing calls. These companies have power diallers in their phone system that ring say, 500 people at once. They may only have 100 operators to take those calls so when they have got through to people, the other 400 calls ring off - hence silent phone calls!
If you ring the telephone preference service and register with them, it stops ALL sales calls within 28 days. Its free and you can find the number in the front of the BT book. I did this 2 years ago and haven't had a silent call since. smile
