Sorry Kent forgot to answer your questions.
The news reports and papers and what they report are they right or wrong? So you believe everything you read and hear do you or is it just selective based on what your formed opininion is already?
Many news reports particulary the BBC show alot of bias based on what the Government want them to feed to us,this i have first hand fact on.
Have you not worked out that you only get reported what the Government want you to know and in a way they want you to hear it, thus already starting to form your opinion for you?
There is little or no negatives reported on what is happening in Afghanistan or Iraq apart from when a troop dies, they are quick to report the missions that have worked out but never the 9 out of 10 that we are failing in, our Government run the TV stations and the newspapers in the way they want wether you like it or not, so in answer to your question no the news papers (if you can call them that) and tv reports and government are not wrong they are just telling you what you want to hear.
Oh and i see your hero is the so called man they call Gaunt, the man with the morals of a sewer rat and the opinions of Atilla The Hun, mmm he works for a red top well known for its high class reporting and intelligently formed articles like example "Freddy Starr Ate My Hamster" sheer class!
Dave I was responding to the "poxy country" quote.
I notice from reading Kents posts that he always has the same people back him up and most other people just quietly slip away probably cos they have seen in the past how others get shouted down, there is very little what you call debating goes on cos the majority rule and the minority with an opinion just get shouted down and sniped at!!
Back to the man in question when did they release him cos i am under the distinct impression he is in Bellmarsh or somewhere secure being held as a flight risk, they will not release him as extradition has been granted, all without a trial in a court of law because he has not actually broken any laws here under the freedom of speech act.

As a citizen and tax payer, if Kenty wants to call this country poxy then he can fill his boots. He has identified what he believes are problems in his ability to look at his country with pride......he has now raised them and opened the debate.
Kenty doesn't have the same people backing him up. I usually find on this forum that people tend to go on one side of a debate because of their principals and not who is debating. I have seen two debates where forumites have been debating with a person on one thread and then debating against on another one.

To think that our money is being given to this animal, to continue to spout his hatred towards us, and then Europe dictates to us we have broken " their " unelected laws, really takes the final biscuit.
Kick him out....bollocks to what Europoe says. If they want his human rights protected, then let them have him. Let them have him on our streets spouting hatred, but they won't.
mad :x :x :x :x :x :x :x
When will this poxy country ever learn? Other countries must think we are the biggest mugs on Earth, and they would be right.

well reading that seems kentys and this fella have something in common....they both dislike this country....maybe they can share a cup of tea together and compare their dislikes !! You say everyone is entitled to their opinion..but you saying because he spouts hatred towards this country he should face the noose !!. Or kenty are you saying youare entitled to it but he isn't !!
It's worth pointing out that our own House of Lords declared first that the provisions in our hastily introduced anti-terror legislation, that allowed us to indefinitely detain suspects without charge, were unlawful. This is not about faceless bureaucrats in Brussels telling us what we can and can't do. It was our own Parliament that first came to the conclusion that we were holding this man illegally. All the European Court have done is agree with us that the law was wrong, and we were right to repeal it. They could hardly do anything other could they? confused
The guy was asking for 174 000 pounds. Instead he's been awarded a derisory sum by a court that has more or less said to him 'OK, we've heard your case, you've got a point, now here's a couple of grand for your troubles, we're all done and dusted, now off you pop, there's a good chap, see how you get on in Jordan.' It's actually a victory for Britain, because the most serious charge, that his detention amounted to torture and inhuman treatment was dismissed, though you'd not know that from some of the articles I've read. I really don't have a problem with this.
Neil x x x ;)
After listening to the radio and watchin Q time etc I have to conclude to myself that most people are of the opinion that this giy should not stay in Britain. What is also agreed on is that maybe the system that has allowed this too happen may need looking at.
What has happened in effect is what should of happened and rightly so however anyone feels about it. The Government held this guy unlawfully the European Government pointed this out and made a judgement to that effect and the British goverment are abiding with the european decision. It is so much the right way to go whether you feel good or bad about it the system in place works.
What is awful I feel is the time it takes that it takes for the sytem to move things forward. I hear that Europe has allowed his final appeal and that it ay take five! Years to get to it.

That is of course YOUR opinion? Ah I see, but you don't seem to want others to have an opinion either it seems........strange that one.
I also am getting a bit peeved with your " Nazi " suggestions. If you really have something constructive to say, I am sure we would all love to hear it. If you are making references to me and the " Nazis " in the same breath, please say so.
IF you are a member of the armed forces, I can assure you from the ammount I have spoken to, they do not hold your views at all.
This country, in case you had forgotten is based on democracy. That means that the MAJORITY hold the power. That is how Governments are formed. That is how the very fabric of our society is formed. We do not pass laws or trade unions don't strike, unless it is deemed so by the MAJORITY. But you seem to think that is obviously not fair. You would like to see the majorities put out to seed?
Going by everything that I have read and heard the MAJORITY want this guy out, like yesterday. The MAJORITY do not want a load of Brussel sprouts telling us what we can and cannot do in our OWN country.
This guy is an ILLEGAL, he should have been kicked out when he was found, but for whatever reason we let him stay. We let him take our benefits and give him a house.
I am not going to argue the toss with you, as you have your opinion and I have mine. That is where in a democratic society, that is allowed. If you are in a minority you are allowed a voice, and an opinion and rightly so.
Seeing as you obviously like Mr Gaunt so much, I thought I would take a snippet of his views on the subject. Also probably our own next Prime Minister, Mr Cameron shares his views too, as do most. But then everyone is obviously wrong except you. Well you have your opinion of course. wink

Woooooooo hold on a mo. I make no excuses at all about my dislike of a lot of things that are happening in this country but....I never knew that was illegal to do?
This guy has incited hatred in his sermons, that is a fact. That is illegal to do, as well you know. There is one thing having an opinion, it is quite another to incite others, to commit acts of hatred towards others.
Have a browse on You Tube and see what you come up with.
Also just for the record, have a read of the Factual information on him and let others decide what kind of man this is.
I would like others to read the countries that have either banned him or want him extradited too. The list is a long one indeed.
He is Jordanian, he is wanted in Jordan for terrorist charges against him. Jordon has already stated he will not be put to death if returned there. Yet we have allowed him to stay here, and have now been forced to keep him here, unless we get him into court to issue extradition proccedings. Which btw could take five years.
If his country of birth want him extradited on terrorism charges, why does a country that he has no links with, have to bend over backwards to keep him here. IF he is innocent he should not be afraid of returning to his own counrty surely?
Kent, the Law Lords ruled on Wednesday that Abu Qatada can be deported to Jordan, because we have been given assurances that he will not be tortured, and will receive a fair trial. The Home Secretary has already signed his deportation order. He's likely to be here for another couple of years, because his lawyer will appeal to the European Court on Human Rights. It will be interesting to see what their decision will be on this, but I don't think the Lords would have made their judgement if they were in any doubt about the legality of their position. I'm not sure what I think about that just yet, but looks like he's gone soon enough.

As for as your seeming belief that the ECtHR has somehow been forced on us from Strasbourg, and is somehow against our interests, the UK we're instrumental in it's creation, and were one of the first signatories to the convention in the 1950s, because we wanted to see a system that was independently capable of protecting the freedoms and rights that we too often take for granted in this country.

Yep - I used to collect Sunday Sport headlines for a laugh.
My favourite was "Angler Catches 12lb Hitler Fish"
Was a chucklesome talking point at parties - we had them cut out on a noticeboard in the kitchen.
Our local newsagent found us quite amusing: "the two girls with the ecelectic taste in reading material" he used to call us (The Observer and the Sunday Sport not being easy bedfellows!)

God, how embarrassing would that be?
Buying "The Observer" every Sunday... I'd wear a bag over my head or at least hide it in between the pages of my "Wellies, Jellies and Masochists" magazine...

Oh sorry Kent you must be right then cos i wont have met half as many troops as you in my line of work, maybe i could arrange for you to come and meet 42 squadron we are based not too far from you afterall and maybe you could then enlighten us all as to why we are bothering to try and protect a country where in your opinion majority rule and the minority is wrong and must lay down at your feet and beg for forgiveness especially when according to you its a poxy country and not worth bothering about. But hey you sleep tight in your bed mate safe in the knowledge that real terrorists who are not just talking about it, but who are actually plotting it and doing it are being stopped on a daily basis by the real people of this country who still think Britain is Great and who care enough to do something about it, and not just those that spout off all the bad stuff that goes on in this country, who run it down, always picking up on the negatives and never the positives.
So i will as you again what have you or are are you doing to make this "poxy" country as you think it should be, and if this "poxy country" is so bad why are you still here, and where would you rather be Jordan, Iraq or somewhere with great mountain views like Afghanistan, maybe you would like to accompany the man we are debating on his journey home?

Though I think kent is wrong on this as on a couple of other occasions I do believe he has an unalianable right to express his views. He is British, lives here and he pays tax into this country. And as for the British servicemen and women then if you have read Mr Kents posts over the last few months you would see that he is an advocate of them.
Your points seem to so far off topic that i think that in making them your trying to prove a point about the army or something i'm not quite sure what. I do believe i'm getting de ja vu from you and chatroom discussions that have gone the way of Army
this army that.

Blimey you an arf ramble. wink
Let me make this point to you, just in case you have missed something along the way. The people I am most proud of in this country, are the armed forces. They are the real heroes out there. They take their oath.....you remember that? To protect Queen and country. I could recite it to you if you like.
I have yet to meet a soldier or hear a soldier, that does think that this kind of guy, is a terrorist and should be have your views and I have mine...exactly as it should be.
I notice you failed to answer my question on your " Nazi " comment. Not suprised really.
I never ever said I hate everything about this country. What I have said many times is that I want to retire abroad. I want to leave behind a lot of the things that I think is wrong.
Knife crime, gangs, ferel youths, our inability to stand up for ourselves now. Entering into the Human rights crap, that is now the very thing that is causing us so many problems. Social breakdowns in family life.....and on and on and on I could go.
I am English, am proud to be English, I love the armed forces, I just do not like a lot of what this great country has now become. Which to a lot of other countries, is a laughing stock. Can you imagine this guy waving his human rights about in America, or Canada or Australa? It would not even get to court.
Yes this country can be " poxy " at times, but that does not mean I am not proud to be English, for which I am.
Kent i am glad you are proud to be English and we both know that this country can again be Great with the right people in charge and the right attitude from the British people as a whole.
Your right i can Ramble and i love it, i have enjoyed the horn locking with you biggrin
