Ok so what is it about London or should I say up north?
They can organise and run socials and munches, there also seems to be a higher proportion of swingers up there too.
Why do we seem to have such a high proportion of time wasters and arseholes around here which makes decent folk look bad?
I think you're right, it only seems that way ( high proportion of time-wasters etc. ), to me at least anyway.
Regarding the London Social, I think it's best to wait and see why the originally planned event did not take place. There could be a good reason why the event organiser has not posted recently.
I have not been on the site that long. From what I have observed, it takes a lot of time and effort to organise an event such as this and because of that there appears to be relatively few of them. The ones that do take place seem to be organised by the same people which seems to indicate that it takes a certain amount of experience to organise a successful event.
I don't know if Ambervixen has organised events in the past - I have not checked. Even if she has, I think she deserves some credit for trying to get something going
There have been many successful and enjoyable London and Essex socials organised by people in the not to distant past. The last one I went to was July last year and was a blast. Yes we seem to have hit a bit of a social drought, there doesn't seem to be the camaraderie and community spirit that was around in this area in the past.
Also sometimes people think they can organise a social on a whim, they do not appreciate how once an event has been announced, just how much people look forward to it. Also that those people in turn are making their own arrangements to meet people at that social. To some, organising a social is merely a way of making themselves more popular and better known in the scene.
Once the social has been organised (totally voluntarily don't forget) There are of course the 60% of people who put their names down, raving about how excited they are, then don't bother turning up or even letting the organisers know they can't make it. This is usually where they see the social as something to go to if nothing better pans out. They manage to get some action and their genitalia forgets to remind them to let the organiser know they can't make it.
Then, as if that lot isn't enough to put anyone off going to the effort of organising an event, there's the few people afterwards who critisise the event and/or it's organisers. Sad but the negative comments do over-shadow the very many positive ones.
dunno

I agree. It takes a lot of work.
it is not only difficult but hugely frustrateing !!
I have organised a few camping socials.....and this very night we have a social on at a club which i have organised.
Now up to 2 weeks ago we had 175 names listed and a reserve list started....in last week...45 people have dropped out !!!! 8 have dropped out on the day....4 in the last hour !!!!
Now these are the ones that have told me !! I am no doubt there will be another 20/30 that just don't turn up !!
Now....I can't lose as its a club social, so costing me nothing. But can you imagine if I had booked a room/Dj etc....and based the admission price on the numbers to cover the costs.....yea I would be vastly out of pocket by now.
This is I believe why you find there are less and less standard socials and munchs and more now organised at a club.
Sorry to say...but no one else....but ourselves to blame.
