I think it's down to newbies copying what other newbies have done and it's no bad thing IMO. At least it shows they are reading the forums and seeing how they may make a start here. The best newbie intro posts are those that make an effort to tell us about themselves with a well written or thought out post, not just a few lines which says little. It's not mandatory to do a intro post, though it does help. In the long run joining in with the banter is the best approach to putting across personality and is the best way to get known.

I've just posted my second post after almost a year on here. Wish I had done a newbie post when I joined, I probably would have felt more included given how many posts I read despite not posting myself.
I was a devout coward, and lurked in the background for a while, before plucking up the courage to do my newbie post. Wish I had read Lovecommando's post before so doing, as mine was just a simple Hi I'm new here.
I have a great time now, but dammit, still have to look at the locked ones first.

Like I said david2052, best way to get known and feel included is to join in and post often yourself, otherwise people will forget who you are or think you are not around. That's if you want to post of course. Nothing wrong with being a browser, it's just that no-one will know you, neither will you get invites to parties or munches.

A polite , and amusing hello thread can always help to prevent merciless savaging from forum members who are less calm and serene than me . So its a nice thing to do . Also it shows up the 100% numbnuts almost immediately :-)
We just posted a "newbie hi"... should've read this post first. didn't know what else to do I suppose. Weren't getting anywhere with just the ads and felt it was time to try and introduce.
...guess we could've been more clever... But we're Americans. lol
I haven't done a " Hi, Im new here..." thread - can't see the point. Fair play to those that do, but I think taking time to get known ( having the bonus of talking a titanic amount of bollocks in the process ) is better, but it would be boring if we all thought the same.
Never did a Hi Im new thread confused Thing is,in my opinion that newbies can get known just as well by erm just posting on other threads!(Less likely to get savaged from the off aswell)

Being a newbie (Joined only a few weeks ago) This is the way I am trying to get known (And possibly get on the list for the Nottingham Munch hint hint lol )
I just felt it was a bit forward to post a 'HI IT'S ME' post when no one yet knows me from Adam, and mum always told me not to make a fuss wink
