another plea for techie help....

Hi there i'am thinking of getting a mp3 player,and, i was wondering if any one knows of any programs. That are available to swop my cd's to mp3 from and any easy to install programs that i could maybe get music from ( leagally of course) :small-print:
As i am a bit thick when it comes to these things :jagsatwork: all help would be much appreciated worship

......as i do not want to spend a couple of hundred quid on something that i can only use for, music and stuff that i have down loaded and, not use my cd's that i have here.

The iTunes store has the biggest selection of legal music, and the iTunes software that goes with it is free and will rip your CDs to mp3, it works best if you are using one of Apple's iPods to play the music on too.

I use CDex to convert CDs to mp3 or WAV format,save them to my hard drive and then I put them on my iPod things. If you convert using iTunes it's very difficult (and almost impossible) to then put them onto any other mp3 player as the format is different and the iPod 'hides' the files.

it will not be a i pod as i have heard they are not very durable, as i will be using it mainly at work :gagged: it will be a ZEN micro........jags do you know where to get CDex from, and, if there are any easy to download and install programs for downloading good quality music from? dunno

The new 3rd generation iPods are the bees-knees, battery problems are sorted out. I LOVE my iPod and use it every day and also have a iShuffle too. lol

Anyway, I think CDex is downloadable free so do a goggle. I don't use any legal (or illegal) download sites so can't help you there. Please be aware that we won't allow the names of illegal sites to be posted here! cool

yes i know that about the sites jags obviously cool

but the reason i want a ZEN micro is cause of it's size wink

it will be able to go in my pocket at work away from the bosses flipa

and i just love the cool colours :color: .

We use Shareaza to get our toons , the site is perfectly legal , its a free download and works very well . Its only illegal if you download copywritten music or software without the copyright holders permission , so never do that OK !

You do know the Zen is the same size as the iPod mini (which also comes in a range of colours) don't you?
...not that I'm a rabid Apple fan or anything....

The Creative stuffs fantastic for people who want an iPod type device, but don't want to pay the iPod designer prices. With Creative you certainly get more of a bang for your buck. biggrin

FREERIP is free and will rip your CDs to MP3 - just do a search on Google and it's there.

Well all i can say is a big thankyou ( yet again ) to everyone who has come up with suggestions for sites, and the differences between the zen micro and the i pod but, i think, i will stick with the zen micro......as it seems much easier to use.
But i have two last quick questions for you all does either of these two have locking keys? because like i put in my original post, when i am at work it will be in my pocket and i don't want to be working away and the songs or whatever keeps jumping :bounce: smackbottom

I got an iPod today, Â£209 in pcworld (first time they've had a good price EVER!!!) and all I can say is...GET AN IPOD!!!
if only for the fact that it has firewire so it's quicker than usb2, and charges with power from the PC, and it's SEXY as hell and, and, and... :twisted:
*edit* in case I sound like a nutter, I am aware of the theoretical speeds of usb2 and firewire400, but I've tried both, and firewire is faster for long transfers. Also it can charge an ipod in 1/5th the time of usb biggrin

SEE I'm not a nutter...just a geek sad

iPod has a locking key and is SO VERY EASY to use!! Can't believe you think the Zen is easier!! :shock: :shock: iPod's got a wheel which responds to fingertip touch. No buttons to press (only the locking key which needs to be slid across) and it's such a joy to hold and to touch and to feel!!!
iPods work with PCs too - same programme as on the Mac.
(get a pink one!!)

yup, hold switches are standard.
yup normal PCs are fine.
no they don't skip due to huge memory, so you have 25mins of antiskip biggrin

oooooooo i can shake for longer than 25 mins lucyuktv :evil2: and i may get an i pod after all but not a pink one, Jags, as i don't think it is my colour, and also i don't think it would go down to well with a couple of hundred dirty, sweaty, and oily engineers poke

so if i do get an i pod then it will be black or something boring like that :yawn:

you have to actually HOLD an ipod to realise why it's better, but if you do, then you'll be hooked biggrin
