Actually, though I've used the microwave to heat/ reheat coffee more than a few times, I read that microwaving mugs of water is a really bad idea!
It's got something to do with the microfissures in the ceramic allowing for superheating of the water to a dangerously energy-laden vapour, whilst the rest of the coffee/ tea/ whatever heats up far slower. Meaning that when you think the whole lot is finally hot enough, there's pockets of far far too hot steam just waiting to erupt and scald you.
Personally, I like to run my bath too hot, use stairs without grabbing the banister, and so I will continue to reheat my coffee in the microwave...
