Apathy on this forum

It seems incredible to me that this forum seems to be so under used. I do realise that the chat rooms will be used by members for a lot but there are so many topics which could only be fully appreciated and discussed on a forum like this. The thread is perhaps too narrow and having a forum section with lots of topics might be better.

I was tempted not to comment, just to emphasise your point on apathy ;)

I think you have a point though , all the stuff in chat roms is not available as a shared resource to be able to reference by all, even sometime way into the future.

There is a lot of experience and valuable opinions that could be of great use to many people.

I think you may well be onto something Afineline.

How about creting a few separate hedings to get the ball rolling?  Don't expect sudden miracles though.

I had not thought of me creating the headings, lol, I thought that they would be only within the grasp of the mods to do so. It would be interesting to hear what topics others would like to see. We have the all things sexual forum but what about, emotional advice especially through lockdown, meets....how to get them, how to behave, more importantly how not to behave, regional forums to allow people to connect, upgrade access to info on the dogging forum. The dreaded politics. Special interest video channels. Any topic which allows folk to connect gives them an insight into potential partners beyond the information that is displayed on a profile and offered in chat.

You can simply start you own topic, like you have already done with this one, on any subject..But what ever is discussed on the SH forum, will probably get little response, because the SH forum is so under used, it's been like the for many years. I don't know why they are so under used, considering the many 1000's of members SH has, all of the other swinging style sites we are on, the forums are usually always very busy with many different topics. Maybe it's the layout of SH or the format, But the forums on here are very under used, and this does tend to lead to many a unbalanced discussion because of the lack of different options.

my point precisely. Why can I go on another site and find animated discussions on everything under the sun yet SH is a wasteland, lol!

Taking my mod hat off and replying as a site member I think the difference is that other sites let you participate in the forums without paying a subscription fee.   Here, many people are paying to use the site, and there are far more interesting/value-for-money aspects to indulge in than chatting in the forums.
It also comes back to the current instant satisfaction culture.   Few people nowadays are willing to wait around for maybe hours or days to see a discussion progress, which is why the chat rooms are so much more popular.

But if the forums were used a lot on here, they wouldn't have to wait around ..so in fact thats the problem.

hhhhhhmmm! Haruuuumph, gggrrrrrr! Sorry cubes but I don’t feel that the subscription angle is relevant. I subscribe to another site and although I actually prefer this one I see positives on the other site which I would love to see on here. The discussions on the other site are instantaneous, dynamic, witty, humorous, creative, often supportive, empathetic and sometimes downright crazy but almost always entertaining. I don’t understand why the forums on here do not get a response similar to the other site. I appreciate what you are saying about other aspects of the site but I am suggesting that it would only enhance SH......it is not a trade off surely?

But does the other site let non-paying members post in the forum?

Yeah..thats just seen as basic free membership..most just stipulate you have to be a member for a few weeks before you can contribute in the forums .

I don't think paying makes any difference. When I first joined this site, the forums were incredibly busy and I used to read the conversations wishing I could afford to pay so I could join in with the conversations. Having stepped away for a couple of years, I was quite surprised when I returned to discover the forums were completely dead. If they ran well previously there is no reason they shouldn't still work under the same posting criteria.

I've been watching with interest as this has developed. Personally, I enjoy dipping into the Forum every day: there is always an interesting or humorous contribution. I am of the generation that finds the chat rooms a bit frenetic and overwhelming. The Forum is definitely more my pace.

Quite ironic that this thread has become the busiest here for some time

My belief is that 'content is king'. If interesting topics are initiated, such as this!,   then contibutors appear.

Possibly many people consume and enjoy the contributions even if they do not directly join in.

A big difference between chat rooms and forums is that forum content can be enjoyed at the convenience of the reader and it doesn't have to be in real time.

Content can be considered, thought about and added to, perhaps creating something of greater value.

The proof , however, will be if anybody starts creating discussion topics, such as this.

Just think about how sometimes the chat rooms have many people supposedly in them and NOTHING being said . It  is like permanent siesta time when it should be fiesta time. Then somebody will enter the room and break the silence with 'Hi', to no response because the last comment was an hour ago.

I would encourgage everybody to consider starting a topic or two... This has shown there is some interest in well thought and expressed views and comments.

I was otherwise engaged on the site, but had a flash to say that robnew had posted a further comment. Mundanities followed my very lively chat, and when I had the chance to return to SH, I came back to the Forum. There was no sign of this thread - Apathy Rules, I thought. Being a novice, I eventually found this , and thoroughly enjoyed robnew's thoughts.

Maybe if a thread is not front and centre on the Forum entry page, people will shrug and move on. Pity, as I have found this discussion really interesting.

Ouch! As the person starting most of the discussions that haven't taken, I'll try not to take this personally! (And as we don't know one another, I will state that I am joking - I do have thicker skin than that!)

The forums here used to be busy mainly due to a core of regular posters who gradually migrated away. If a similar number of active posters made the effort who knows what might happen but I think most here nowprefer to do their chatting via the chatrooms.

I was intrigued to see various comments on how busy the forums used to be and I truly believe that they can be once more. We are now starting to get a wee core of hardy individuals who can make a difference. The number of folk who have a quick browse on the forums to check out the topics and see who is sticking their head above the parapet will grow exponentially. As has been pointed out, the chat rooms are well used but can be very isolating when you wander in and say hi in the middle of a group chat or an obscure thread. Every part of this site has its place and is useful but it really should not be a case of if I use this part of the site then I don’t need that part.

And now over to hothouse sub for the next gripping topic.........no pressure! Lol!!

Hot House, no offence was intended . It was a generalised comment as I know you realise.

Regardless of how interesting or provocative a post might be, not everybody will contribute, however I would hope that there is the potential for an expanded audience and contributors.

There are some very knowledgeable people, some forthright ones, some very wise people and some clever and mischievious ones with exceptional talents of expression.

We need all the facets represented for a balanced, informative and fun forum.

I did realise, don't worry - I am quite non-confrontational (surprise!) so I wouldn't have drawn attention if I genuinely thought your comment was directed at me!

You are right, forums are made interesting by the presence of a wide range of personalities - hopefully there will be some interesting discussions generated from this little flurry of new activity!

I'll never forget the headline on our free rag many years ago - "Nisa assistant attacked with cheese" A shoplifter was confronted, and threw the hot cheese at the young lady. They even showed a still from CCTV! I still have that front page salted away somewhere.

I have stopped buying our local paper now as I have no interest in rural Wri groups or the cost of sheep at market however handsome they look😉
