Today, on the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, I was amazed to learn that just 8 years after the event, the command module pilot Michael Collins was working as a salesman in a car showroom!
Neil Armstrong is now a virtual recluse, Buzz Aldrin revels in the fame, while Collins, who was basically their ticket home is all but forgotten. So here's my "big up" for Michael Collins, the forgotten crew member of Apollo 11.
To be honest I only really think of Aldrin and Armstrong when thinking of the Lunar landings. It is a shame however that the impetous for spece exploration through manned vehicles sort of petered out after Apollo 17 coming into the mid seventies.
Wouldn't it be great to see all the nations interested in space come together as one and maybe then we could afford to explore more and develope new combined ideas. Lets face it this world is small we need answers to questions about our future.
I know that people will say things such as "before Space lets save our own planet and people" I don't believe thats realistic but I do believe they should both be invested in.
I'm with the conspirator theorists on this one...
Did they actually go to the moon or was it just a big hoax..
pmsl :laughabove: :laughabove: :laughabove:
I don't believe they put a man on the moon.
i dont believe it either ..i reckon all the crap that can still be seen up there was delivered by our postman and he aint human!
The sixties was a decade full of conspiracy theories, JFK, Marylyn Monroe etc..
The Film " Capricorn 1" offers a pretty good version of a fake lunar landing.
I dont know any theroies, I just think back to the 60s when nobody i knew had a telephone and wonder where this technology came from. And then I wonder why we never went back.
Fair point max but 40 years is a long time isnt it. Aeroplanes went from the Wright brothers to the Meteor in that time.
An another concern how did they get that shot of earth with the engine falling away when telstar for example could only transmit pictures of very very poor quality.
Well ma given the crippling cost of space program to the soviet economy it was probably in their best interests to fake a loss perhaps?
