Phuckers, perhaps reading the full report and not just someones 'blogg' about the report may give you more insight, and then you will probably also realise that the majority of the 'official think tank'reports which are being done at the moment are to support the Governments Welfare to Work Policy around reducing child poverty (which it appears is the root of all evil). rolleyes
Quote from the original Policy Report -
"What Is the Relationship Between Marriage and Poverty?
Children living with single mothers are five times as likely to be poor as those in two-parent families. Some economists have attributed virtually all of the 25 percent increase in child poverty between 1970 and
1997 to the growth of single-parent families. But are single parents poor because they are not married, or
would they have remained poor even if they married available partners?
CENTER FOR LAW AND SOCIAL POLICY, Brief 3, May 2003.
However, more recent research has shown that a lot of single parent families actually decide to stay single as the welare to work reforms discourage them from being part of a family unit (google Katheryn Edin for papers on USA studies and Gregg, Harkness and Millar for UK reports, which are more up to date than the one you quoted and actually relate this to present day UK welfare to work policies for Lone Parents).
So perhaps it has nothing to do with the size of the family and is more to do with the people concerned, the environment the children are raised and the values of the parent/s involved in the upbringing.

Phuckers, the report had been disected & quoted by a religious group to suit it's own ends.

As do most religious groups wink
im not sure whats going on here, but i have sat back and watched puckers be picked on.
if anyone else had raise this musing i dont think some of the replys would have been so bull in a china shopish.
a forum does not normally flow by using one word replys, most people justfy those replys with following sentences.
often a thread started will have their opinions expanded by the quality input from the other forum members.
i know it will be considered that no AUP has been broken, but if you dont like the posters style etc, why not just leave the thread alone?
i know i will most likely get flamed for typing this, but im sick of seeing this happen.
now i know i have probally hijacked this thread myself and i appoligise.
and no i will not get into a tit for tat response here. so those who feel like fishing and baiting, im not biting.
just felt i would rase a point or leave the site, sadely ( some may say) i decided to raise it and stay, as on the whole i enjoy, but this is boring and ruining the forum.

That was probably a very good reminder for all of us, inlcuding me, that sometimes we can come across as being downright rude in the way we post. It may not (as Fem says) be against the AUP in what we are saying, but the 'feeling' behind it very often is just not necessary. Some recent posts remind of kids in a playgound, where one person says something to upset another and the 'gang' suddenly swoop to stick up for their friend.
Fem, you have reason to be flamed for anything you said in your post

Back to the original premise. I was brought up in a 2 parent family where Mum, as was the norm in those days, stayed home (and worked extremely hard) and Dad worked all the hours he could to bring in money. They had 5 children and although we were all brought up in a very poor household we never went without necessities like food, clothes and love. So how come 4 of the children grew up with a good work ethic and subsequently made a better life for themselves even if only monetarily, whereas 1 sibling tried his very best to become a career criminal doing petty crime and anything dishonest to bring in money?
Nature/nurture? 1 parent/2parent? Doesn't make a difference as far as I can see but I do know that my honest, hardworking parents were mortified and always blamed themselves.

Not by me you won't.
I can take peoples opinions about me or my posts, or my replies. I really dont give a toss what people think. I have strong views and we have spent far too long down the liberals route, and if you look at society in general, it ain't working. So bring back some tough measures. lol
But in answer to your reply fem, the thing I really hate is when people pick on peoples post because they deem it to be bad grammar! Now I think thats def not nice. Or if their spelling is not up to their standards. I think getting angry and giving a strong opinion on a post is one thing, but to slag people off because of poor spelling is quite another. mad

back on topic ........is it important wether it's true or not that kids from single parent backgrounds are more hard working? or should we not use someones background to pre-judge them.I've always thought it a bad idea to label anyone, good or bad
P.S. I do realise some of my previous posts would appear to contradict this but I don't care that was a different day
