Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, but could it be more a case of more swingers being smokers, than vice versa? I know it sounds the same, but it is subtly different.
Perhaps swinging, being the hedonistic, yet nervy, past time that it is, predisposes people to require more than their own courage to cope with the nerves and stresses? It would certainly explain why at so many meetings alcohol is always available and why so many people need a cigarette now and then to calm the nerves.
I'm not saying swinging encourages smoking, or drinking, but I think the social side of it, combined with the nerves, may contribute to people doing more of it than perhaps in every day "vanilla" life. That makes more sense to me than having an addiction to nicotine which turns you into a rampant sex maniac.
Smoking is a choice like swinging - considered antisocial by those who don't or used to (methinks they protest too loudly)
We both smoke - at home or outside the pub, but never before meeting peeps who don't - its called courtesy.
As for smoking on cam - i can think of worse things - e.g. crap music on cam - who are we influencing? Smoking is a choice and I prefer smoking peeps who are truthful - too many on here who say they don't smoke and when we meet do...

Before the ban, there seemed to be an awful lot of smoking in clubs. I sometimes found it a bit much, even though I smoke myself. When I can't smoke, I don't actually find it a problem. I'd rather stay in a nice warm club that sit in a minibus outside where I can smoke but might miss some action.
Reading another thread made me think.
We all (I expect) want to meet people who are clean, freshly showered etc. It even says so on some people's profiles.
So what if I turn up, squeaky clean and teeth brushed as I left the house. But then I light up a cig in the car on the way. Surely I turn up with clothes that smell of smoke and breath that has long forgotten what minty freshness was.
It's a bit like getting all clean then going to the gym for a hard hour's work out before the meet.
(I don't smoke btw, used myself as the example to avoid looking like I'm picking on anyone.)
My hubby smokes although only about 10 a day and always outside. My biggest issue with the smoking ban is that when I walk through the city centre, I have to regularly step onto the road to pass smokers filling the pavements blowing their exhaust into my face. At least when they could smoke inside, I could choose whether to join them or pass on by. I do not consider whether a person smokes before I think about whether I'd like to meet them. If they come here, they can smoke outside with MrG and if we go to theirs, I can put up with one evening of smoky atmosphere especially if I'm getting a shag out of it!
mr fun stopped smoking 2000 and mrs fun stopped 1988 a long time before we started swinging in 2004

two nones here. you need a poll and set it against some data held by the government.
That will prove it one way or another.

love this one, as a quite sad government statistical freek I have to say that as far as I'm aware we've never collected any data on wether citizens of this country are swingers or not!
Memo to gordon?

I say go for it! lol
Also ask to poll if swingers are more likely to be drinkers too, that will save us doing it. Thanks wink

Memo to gordon? The data referred to was 'the % of smokers', but I think you new that rolleyes.
As for a memo to Gordon, there may not be a need. Someone keeps picking up god ideas from this site and using them. I think it is a massive Government plot to monitor public opinion. Those lizards are smart! smile
Should the question be:
Are swingers more likely to be smokers ?
For myself, since part of the reason for the legislation was to alter behaviour to help people stop smoking, I would be interested to see how many of the smokers continue to go "outside" to smoke !!
(minor student of pavlovian behaviour)

We smoke after sex, but only if we go really really fast
