Right folks, time to set a few things straight.
Like my wife Clare put,its the threads, not the replies i'm on about,we all talk shite when we reply to certain quality of the thread is my issue,i'm not talking about wanting all threads to be thought provoking or perfect (i love a funny or stupid thread ie Bilko's),just a bit of thought to go into the original thread.
I'm not getting at anyone in particular, and haven't singled out anyone in my original post.
Yes i admit ive posted a shit load in the last 8 days but if you look back and see how many threads ive started its not all that a lot has been replies to other threads that interest me.
I hope thats cleared up a few points for some of you.

When I was new I started far too many threads in far too short a space of time and I think all new people do but after a while they can see that the responses get less and less . Never really thought about how good or bad they were but now I am very much more selective before I hit the keyboard now and often cant really see ones I can contribute too so I dont.
Anyway I want to see the regulars back in here as Jags says - Sappho, Will, Mr and Mrs FC, Wilma and Fred and Jags and Rocky and Shireen- yes I will name names get back in here !!!!!!!! No disrespect to anyone I havent mentioned not intentional.
I love the threads that go on for ages not ones that nobody makes an effort to sustain because they want to start their own.
Thats my rant wont say any more......................................................
Has this been a grey day or what. Turned me into a tree and that I am being serious about
Though if everybody wants I too will start a couple of dozen and know you will all shower me with love...................................  wink
my threads are well knackered
so am going to buy some new ones on saturday

Serious mode for all of two seconds now. I have not time nor energy at the moment to get involved in serious threads. I pop in every now and again and have a bit of fun and banter with forum members old and new. When I am back in the swing of things I will return to my bitter and twisted ways, until then I wanna play!!!

Someone actually takes this site seriously??? I thought it was here to provide an outlet for me when I feel the need to have a break from my 'real life'.
Life's too short to give a shit and unfortunately the years seem to accelerate as they pass to exacerbate things. All i can honestly say is thanks to those whom find amusement, sorry to those who don't and mine's a pint of what you're having to those about to go to the bar.
Now, on an 'i'm slightly tiopsy' and randomly off-subject type note, Rossi rules!!! The Doctor ess a genius. Heee-a sheeet all over Sete, Max and farts in the face of Honda bolt

A mix is what is needed for everyone, a few games that everyone can join in on and some serious posts where people can air their views/ask questions. The cafe would be a boring place if all we did was the latter!

Heres an extract from one of her finest works

They lay. They rotted. They turned

rotflmao nice poem confused poetry/pottery... ah who cares, it made me smile  lol
Hiya Steve,
I have to agree with you Steve, I really do think the quality of posts of late have been quite poor, some have been really fun, especially, the '3 things about the person above you' must rank as one of the fastest developing threads since we've been members here.
I tend to find also, that threads get taken over by quite a few people, hijacking i think it's called, this really disappoints me and must say, that is one of the reasons why i/we don't post as often as we would like, it tends to be hijacked and then the whole 'clique' of some members talk about endless rubbish.
Anyway, just wanted to agree with your point.

Thanks PaulnSusie, but all responses are welcomed,as long as its not about you wanting me hung by my balls

so the hijack that turns an otherwise sinkable post into something glorious is out then? IMVHO those are often the very best things you'll find on here! unless it's something deeply serious to start with, on with the hijacking . . . . . .

All responses are welcomed to posts that i (Paul) make too, i'm not saying that, but sometimes i feel a little let down if i've made a serious post and it gets hijacked and then goes off at a tangent.
I'm not innocent of a few minor hijacks since i've been here, but i always try and return to the point in hand on the original post.
Paul
Not personal to you Steve. I've noticed that a lot of the threads get "taken over" and end up becoming a conversation between a small group of members which doesn't relate to the original thread at all. Fine if the author has no problem with it but maybe a bit frustrating if they genuinely want responses?!
Thats my take on what Paul's said anyway - Susie smile

I think most people try to do the same Paul, there's no reason why you shouldn't revert to the original point if you feel you have something to say about it!

Oh! - He already did - must've been short on time - it was less than a page long   biggrin

Erm, I kinda like the banter, post a huge amount of crap, and rarely take things seriously. I DO try not to destroy a serious thread, unless it`s getting nasty, then a joke or two is usually helpful.
I`m pretty sure however that I fall into this group, so if I annoy the snot out of anyone please PM me and let me know :uhoh:

Vogon poetry is clearly far superior, but I don't want to get into a fight about that.
Threads:
Part of Steve's complaint was about people who "only join in" confused: :?: :?: :?: :?:
I assume he is objecting to those who contribute to threads but don't start any?
So what? Many of us that don't fall into the self-obsessed attention seeker category are quite happy for the conversation to be led by others and contribute when we think we have something to add, be it wise, witty, or just killing time. I have never understood the prevalent attitude that a thread starter somehow "owns" it. I certainly don't feel the need to ask permission to join in "someone else's" thread, and as long as people are contributing, does it really matter who starts the threads? I don't come on here because I have something in particular that I want to say when I log on - I come here primarily to wind down, see what everyone's up to and exchange a bit of banter with whoever happens to be in. If I feel the urge to start a new topic I'll do so, but I don't feel that I should if I have nothing in particular that I want to talk about. This is no different from your local pub, where most of the conversation topics are introduced by the same few people and everyone else joins in. Without the joiner-inners, the thread starters would be talking to themselves so I really don't see the point of that particular whinge.
As to the implied drop in the quality of posts, that is just "good old days" type thinking: Some people are resistant to change, and in a place like this with people arriving all the time, change is inevitable and constant, and just because you're not as comfortable adapting to new people as you are chatting to your old mates, that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with them, it's just your cliquey attitude talking, I don't see that there is any such drop in quality. What I do see is a few of the more senior members keeping to themselves and never talking to newcomers, and if the newcomers are frozen out by the cliques, then the cliques have no business complaining about the quality of newcomers' posts - what did you expect FFS?
I'm going to wrap this up now before it turns into a whinge of my own. Let me just conclude by saying that if anyone feels the content of discussions is of a poorer quality than they require, then it is up to those people to put finger to keyboard and do something about it, because this site is what YOU make it, and nobody else has a responsibility to cater to your tastes.

Nice poem, Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, worst poem in the universe... and vogon poetry is mild in comparison... Ok so I am a sad anorak wearing comedy sci fi loving freak...
As to the point in question, some of the threads are bollocks, this is true, and they drop rapidly off the bottom of the page. Could people think a little more before they start a thread, wouldn't hurt, so point well made (See the posting guidelines, they say the same thing, including running a quick search for old threads)
Thread hijacking, can be a pain, can save a thread, can cheer a day, makes the board what it is... If it is your thread and you really want some more serious replies either wait, as anyone with a serious point WILL still make it, or put in a nudge in the thread in the direction you wanted it to go.
Practical upshot I have been away a lot for last few days, as no doubt are a lot of people. Things have got a mite serious with people asking what should be posted, sniping at each other (happens though) and such like. Last time I got all wound up and took some time out of the boards (not the only reason, but one of them). When I came back nothing got to me anymore and I saw the joy of posting in here again. So if it all looks dark and gloomy, take a few days, or a week away. Clear your head, realise what this is, an opportunity to exchange banter with those from all over the UK with an open mind. If it looks dark and gloomy, you taking it too seriously.

Ice, I think you`ll find that it was quite the opposite. Steve was pointing out the quality of some of the topics started. The rest was just the direction the thread took.
Maybe the banter rescues some of these threads? I hope so, or I`ll be unemployed

Tall'n'Hairy! yes!!!
if there seems to be a clique who don't respond to certain posts, perhaps they've seen it all before, and they, once upon a time, sat back and searched old threads and tried to get a feel for things here. i know just how arrogant it sounds for me to even to suggest it, but hey, there it is, as i see it!!!!! it took me about 2 months to make my first post . . . . several months to post my own thread . . . . . just MHO once again . . . and i know it don't seem humble at all!
and Ice Pie, yes, indeed, if you don't post, and try to redress what you see as a balance, you can't complain!!!!!

Also it'd be nice to see some threads from some people out there that only ever join in other threads.

As I said, not everyone wants to lead the discussion. It takes all sorts of personalities to make this place what it is, and I don't think it's fair for the more outgoing to have that sort of expectation of everyone else.

Couldn't agree more. Some days I just want to join in other people's threads. Others I might start one up. I don't feel I've made any different a contribution either time. There's is no virtue in thread starting - it's the quality that counts and as others have said that can be the result of thread following or hi-jacking or just a darn good thread.
