Ok so obviously you think that some people on here who do start threads ARE self obsessed and attention seeking???
Would you like to name names?????
I put this thread on knowing that some people wouldnt agree with what i put,and its good for people to voice their sentiments.
I'm not self obsessed, far from it and i don't start threads just to get noticed.I start thread because they're topics close to my heart, funny (well in my opinion anyway) or just of some kind of interest to me.
It wasnt started to get at anyone in particular just as a general point i wanted to make, and it's not the first time it's been made in the past few months.
At least its become a good debating point, but please, please don't linch me at the munch,i really am a fairly nice person who normally doesnt have a go.

No one's going to fall out here, we're just having a stimulating exchange of views. Well alright, an exchange of views. ;)
And no one's going to fall out at the Munch either, except Judy, whose bra is WAY too small!

sorry just a thought but if the number of posts were taken off your avatar then maybe trying to reach that golden mile would not be an issue................................. I will say ouch now before the slapping starts!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed Corrie (HUG)
I was guilty of a big post count right back at the beginning too. But mainly it was other people referring to it more than me (some positive and some, quite rightly so, negative).
I was also guilty of posting in almost every thread and in all forums - iit wasn't to up my count - it was over enthusiasm after joining this site. Many Many people have done the same. Most calm down very quickly and then just decide which posts to contribute to.
I personally couldn't give a damn what my count is - and these 'races' to up counts just result in less thought or just personal quick posts between a very small number of members. Quick banter is fine - but surely not to up your post count. And Steve - to be honest I really don't feel you have much room to talk on this one.
As for quality of posts - that does not matter at all in a lot of ways. The forum is here for everyone - not everyone is well educated or is able to pen a wordy post but they want to take part.
I have been thinking for about 3 months now that the site has gradually being depleted of the regs. They come in occasionally but that seems to be about all. The last 6 weeks or so has almost become dire (just my opinion). Dozens of threads which seem to do no more than try to invite the 'oh aren't you wonderful, aren't your pics sexy' reply posts. Don't get me wrong I don't think there is anything wrong with this as such, but when it is constantly the same people it does become a little boring.
I rarely look at web pages or adverts and recently I have found that I am not even reading many of the threads - I just look for the posts of specific people who I know will make me laugh or whose posts will be interesting or, as with this one, where the thread title intrigues me.
I post relatively little these days and I had considered leaving, but as with all things forums have a natural cycle and people come, shine for a while, and then go. So I will stick around and hope that more of the regs pop back in occasionally.
I apologise if any of this is has already been said (I don't have time to read all the posts this morning).

(who has been there, done that and got the T shirt on this one - eh Jags? wink )
I actually agree with what loads of people in here have already said.. things HAVE changed a lot in here.. and if it is for the better or for the worse is down to personal preference. confused
In times gone by.. (ok a few months ago) we had more threads that involved everyone and were in a way longer lasting. Now we have a lot of “little” threads each involving different groups of people. To my eyes there does not seem to be the same community spirit as there was before.
I have also found that we tend to have more newcomers jumping in at the deep end and feeling as though they have to post loads in order to prove themselves.. before anyone jumps on me and pulls my hair.. I am not criticizing.. just making an observation.
I have to say that in MY opinion the café is not as much fun as it used to be, however I am sure a lot of people will say that they actually enjoy it more.
I personally don’t think that the place is “cliquey”( but maybe I am just blind and if it is.. please can I join! biggrin ) I think the problem is that people are jumping “right in there” so quick that no one has got to know them yet.. so they are not going to get the same response as someone who has built up relationships with a large number of people.
I know that at times I post a lot – had a look.. works out about 10 posts a day…. And am sure some people might think I am an attention seeker but darling.. everyone knows that u can never have too many diamonds or too much attention!
Alex - you have hit a number of points right on the goddam head!!

Firstly i dont think Steve does reply to every post, infact if you look you will see that,if you dont look through all the threads that often then how can you comment on his posting???
Steve has a sense of humour which obviously not all of you quite get,him trying to get his post count up to start with was to help him clarify his own identity on here, and no one can blame him for that!!
Yes some people have had races on here to up the post counts, but thats up to them isnt it????
I think it really can be quite intimmidating when peeps keep going on about "regulars" who used to be so much more fun, thats great, like having old friends but for some of us we dont know all of them that well, and often feel the need to stamp a mark a little more as we dont often fit in or get the old jokes, and thats even though weve been here a few months.
I post replies to topics that i either have an opinion on,an experience on,or a comment to make.
I often follow topics and dont reply to them as i have nothing constructive to add,i start topics that i think are interesting, have a point to put across,or have a question to ask.
But Alexandra,if it was fine for you to post a lot when you were new here, then why isnt it the same for Steve????
(this isnt a personal attack,i dont mean to offend anyone i just like a healthy debate!)

Well said Alex and WBB, I agree with all you both said. I think having a post total count is having a deleterious effect - it's just unnecessary. I have taken part in a number of net groups where posting-totals were not part of the system. I already had an idea what I wanted to do before Rocky did it, and I will be doing the same thing sometime before long. The term "godlike" for people with over 1000 posts is also something I also object to (not on religious grounds). I do not understand the point of anyone deliberately posting a lot to "clarify their identity in the group" - for what purpose exactly?
Mike.
thought I was over all this yesterday but maybe I'm not sad
I'm still a relative newbie ..... 2 months membership ... and I'm already at 1000 posts.
It hasn't been a race, it wasn't a competition, it wasn't to establish my identity ....... I work from home from 1pm every day and have a hubby who works nights at the moment .... so my postings have been about making new friends, companionship and bloody good fun with individuals who are likeminded and obviously share a similar sense of humour as myself.
I used to chat on IRC a huge amount and eventually found myself disillusioned with immediate chat - a bulletin board type community felt much nicer and more consistent.
Although I understand that no one is specifically meaning me ... there are loads on here with high post counts ... I do feel that it is affecting me personally as at the moment I feel very paranoid about posting.
:(

I only want to add something to this part of the conversation. Us 'regulars', or 'oldies' as we have become known cool are part of what makes this site good. We have contributed longer and have helped evolve the friendliness of the community and the 'new' people have benefited greatly from that. I have met lots and lots of people from here and consider many of them friends and others people I could turn to for help and advice and comfort.
Imagine being new to an area, just moved house, and you are invited to attend a party in the house down the road. Of course you are going to be a tad outside of the shared experience but it doesn't mean that you're not welcome or not included. There is a wealth of shared history between many of us and that won't change or go away. Trying to fit in is good, trying to fit in too hard is not good.
Now... I am thinking about locking this thread before it goes on to become more than 'debate'. Tell me what you think?
:P
I love the pitstops, it gives me another opportunity to start a `look at meeeeeeee` thread!
Venusxxx (shameless as always
I don't want to go on the defensive here but i feel the need to put something (not just to get my post count up either).
So far virtually everyone has managed to post replies on here without naming anyone, then suddenly Alex pops up and says i'm posting just to get my count up.
When i first got my own profile,me and Clare had a bitching night on here for a laugh, loads of people joined in and we had a great pioit of me constantly going on about post counts to start with was to have a laugh and joke with Clare and some of the others who joined in the threads.
As for the rest of the time, ive not posted any more than most people adnd since i can't really be classed as being new on here i don't see what the problem is.I reply to posts that i like and quite often join in while its running.
My points that i started with on here had nothing to do with post counts, they were to do with the standards of the initial threads and the fact not enough people start them.
Maybe if regulars are leaving the site,we should all try a bit more to make it more fun on here because this is a great place and i love it on here.
Hugs to steve .... I can relate and you know what .... i think because we do care so much we're taking it far too personally .... and it's not necessarily us that people are talking about  I'm far too paranoid at the moment (I'm so tired).
Jags, i for one think it might be time to lock the thread, perhaps the post count is something that could be discussed with Mark? FOr example having a list available (like it is in the members bit up there) but not next to the avatars?
I didn't mean to upset you or anyone, Calista - I enjoy your posts, please don't feel paranoid....I was making a general point.
Mike.
After the direction this has taken i really have to agree that it should be locked.I think its gone past being a debate and into something else not so nice.
