As some may be aware, there is the first National Armed Forces day this Saturday.
We will be going to the Chatham Parade, and the intinerary looks fantastic.
All the tickets were sold out very quickly, but think it could be on the tv.
I think a great idea to honour those that give their lives and their freedoms to help others.
There will be planes like the last Spitfire flying and many other things going on. Try to catch some of it on the tv, as it will be a great day.
Check the website as am sure there is something there for everyone to see. Fly the flag on Saturday and remember Britain and it's people are superb.
As an ex-squaddie, this whole thing is giving me a huge boost. Too long have the men and women of this country, that have given time, blood and in the ultimate, their lives, been pretty much ignored by their government (remember that poppy day is run by the British Leigon and that Rememberance Sunday was first set up to calm the population after the 1914-18 slaughter).
Really nice to see a true day of celebration and I'm sure the men and women involved in the various parades will get a huge kick out of it. Long may it continue!
OK...off the soapbox now!
For information there are lots of other events and parades etc. etc. all over the country so anyone wishing to join in can have a great day. Local papers have the details.

Para NCO's NOT noted for sense of humour!
Especially not after 3 tours of Belfast in the 1970's!

When I was at university in America, every Wednesday all the students who were in the forces training corps wore their uniforms.
I sure appreciated it :rascal:
I'm not just saying this to be funny though, I suppose I'm highlighting the difference in attitude. There was an acceptance of people in their uniforms and a genuine pride on the part of the students involved.
That was twelve years ago though - so how it might have changed, I don't know.
To all who stand between the light and the shadow. Who go into danger when others run away.

The first Armed Forces Day seems to have been a massive success.
Up and down the country people celebrated, none more so than at Chatham Dockyard.
The day was great and the sun shone, but I was amazed that the only member of the Royals that turned up was someone 17th in line to the throne. I would have thought one of the Princes would have been there.
Stiil this new tradition is one that I hope will continue for years to come. I think it will and I think it will grow more and more each year.
Once again if there are any service men or women who by chance view this, then thankyou to you all.
I think it's long overdue but it seemed to be pretty low key in terms of publicity for the day ... I only actually found out about it when they mentioned it on the news in the evening.
Unlike the US who seem to need little excuse to tell everyone how fantastic their armed forces are, the UK seems to go the other way and fear any kind of celebration/praise in case someone or other is offended by it. I'm not saying we should go all jingoistic, but there's nothing wrong with appreciating the sacrifices that have been made by military personnel past and present.
Hopefully that will change and I agree, having it on a Bank Holiday would be a good move.
