That is fantastic biggrin
John Everett Millais
Ophelia

Seen here close up the detail painted in her face says everything about her tragic story.

This might sound as bit unlikely, but for a modern living artist...............Rolf Harris !!!!

Theres two people i'd love to own original artwork by, Dali and Rolf....But if i ever have the spare cash to indulge in a rolf original it just has to have a fence in it cos i 'didn't know what it is yet' until he painted the fence in and stood back

I love this painting, Its an illustration of Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet: Hamlet loves Ophelia, the daughter of Polonius, but treats her harshly in his distress caused by the murder of his father and the treachery of his mother. He kills her father; unable to bear the double loss, she becomes insane and drowns herself.
Seen here close up the detail painted in her face says everything about her tragic story.

Certainly is a great. The model for this painting nearly drowned posing for it.
Did you by chance watch Desperate Romantics on BBC early this year about the Pre Raphaelite Brothers and their models? Straight after DR BBC4 had a discussion looking more in-depth at each of the brothers and models. Brilliant!
Artists I admire - Eelus, Sepr, Cheo, Jullian Kimmings, Martin Whatson, P. Boswell, Pen, Fake, Dan Kitchener, Vhils, Lilli Wenn, Jody, Byroglyphics, Lee Ellis and Bansky...probably lots more if I think to much about it confused :?
BTW - great choice of Banksy pics Easy biggrin

A local department store had an exhibition of Rolf Harris' work last weekend, including some originals....complete with security gaurd. Prices were anywhere between £20k and £46k. Some very nice stuff though.
This is a great thread

Sand Art - This young Ukrainian girl tells an entire story by pushing around sand on a table. She uses nothing but sand and her hands to create these images, interpreting the invasion and occupation of her country from 1941-1945
Thames

Im of a mind that the Thames itself is art.
tomorrow I think I may walk the banks at low tide, collecting interesting detritus, colourful and rotten flotsam.
I shall return to my garret where it will be assembeled into a "piece"
a quick jaunt down the river to the Tate Modern where I shall launch it through one of the large windows.
Bastard #01, I shall call it.
the Lottery arts grant should be here by wednesday I reckon...post permitting.

I had only seen this guys street art here in Brizzle but after seeing this one in person I've decided I quite like Nick Walker. Its not framed here as I saw it at a charity action. The frame itself was beautiful and set the image off to perfection - mind costing £700 just for the frame it had to lol This one went cheap £2800 confused :?
Not sure I like all of his work but I do like his wry humour.
You bunch of sod's mad
you've ruined it now ,,,,,,, rolleyes
I've been saving my faeces for two years now, carefully placeing them in a heap and was about to call them,
"A History of my Inner Self in Negative"
and now you're telling me thats NOT art???
I give up dunno
wink
All lovely paintings oils water colours.
sadly no funds to buy them.
will stick to prints oh so much cheaper.
