Ello every one, I have got to do a basic project in Auto cad 2006. Was wondering if anyone has ever used the software and if you have any advice/ tips?
Mr fluff has used autocad. What is your project and how can he help?
2D or 3D project?
well what i have to do is i will be given a spec of a house and then i have to design it on auto cad from what i know so far it will be very basic
part 2d and part 3d i think i will be getting the whole details later on today
Get Unigraphics NX instead - much more fun.
Unfortunately you'll have to model in in full 3-d - from the foundations to the roof tiles and including the door knobs.
Actually come to think of it NX is useless for all the important designs - kitchen, gardens etc. That's why they make us use it for designing aerospace components. mad
i have used an earlier version of autocad from cad/cam point of view .i prefer it to unigraphics ,as its quicker for my long as you have some sort of instruction book you will manage ok
a tip is learn the text commands - makes it quicker
I have found that there is a difference between those who prefer text commands to those who prefer icons.
Generally speaking I have found the following:
text commands are preferred by people who have been brought up purely on computers or come from a computing background.
icons are preferred by people who started out on drawing boards (long long ago)
These are generalisations which I have noticed over the last 20 + years of CAD use. They may not match the general views of anyone else.

OI. Less of the long, long ago - thank you. It isn't that long.
Ok - maybe it is! bolt
