Resize the pic with this:

and save it to your computer somewhere you can find it again
Go to your profile, find "Upload Avatar from your machine:"
Click "Browse" and find the picture you just saved
Click Open in the pop-up box, which will then close
Click Submit on the profile page
That should be it
