I'm comfortable with old one. I see it and recognise it and automatically associate it with you. Some people change their avatar with their underwear, and that's fine, but when you have one for a long time it becomes your online 'face', as much a part of your identity as your real face, and resistant-to-change old farts such as me have trouble adapting to familiar people suddenly turning up with a new face. It's almost as if it's not really you any more.
(Armchair psychologists keep your analyses to yourselves, I know what I mean even if you don't ;) )
