Do you know that you could be potentially putting yourself and more importantly, this site at risk by repeatedly libelling Barry George? If he decided to sue you and SH for damages you would have to prove in court that he was guilty of Jill Dando's murder.

I suggest you have a peep at my signature! It clearly states these are my opinions. That's all it is..an opinion. We are still allowed to have opinions in this country.
If that was the case then he would have to sue a lot of people including the police officer who was second in command on the case. :shock: Or go onto the Sun newspaper forum, blimey there are hundreds there with more to say than I have. dunno
Oh another question. Clever lawyers. They are the ones that can twist witnesses around to the point they don't even know their own course that can work both ways, on the prosecutor and the defence teams. It's their job to do that. I have nothing against lawyers at all.

Why is it that those who bang on and on about law and order seem to know less about law and the judicial system than anyone else?
Go read the libel laws and in particular the liability of Internet Service Providers.

How on earth can anyone who is stating their own opinion and I quote "The whole point is that I believe George is guilty" be making libellous comments? That is their opinion. They are not saying it is fact, they are not making any accusation, they are merely stating THEIR opinion on something.
I personally believe that there shouldnt be a monarchy in this country, does that mean I am libelling the Queen? Committing treason? Breaking any law? No, that would be silly to even suggest it. As it is silly to suggest, in MY opinion, that the site would called upon to PROVE Barry George is guilty because of the opinion stated in an open forum of one of its members!
An opinion, without accusation or prejudice, is just that.......an opinion! A personal opinion at that.

Because the law says they are.
If I stated in public (and yes, this forum is a public arena) that in my opinion Shrek2 is a and fiddles with kids you would be quite within your rights (and the law) to sue me for defamation of your character.
My defence would be either that I had never said it in the first place (difficult, as all posts are kept on a server somewhere) or that in fact you were a .
Where on earth do people get this idea that saying 'this is only my opinion' will absolve them and this website from a writ of libel?

Just because you believe it does not make it the truth. I don't agree with Lonni on a lot of things, but in this instance he's correct I'm afraid. The laws of libel are quite clear on this.

Well he will have the money soon to sue, he is more than welcome to try. But think he may well want to sue others who have made far worse statements that I have. Along with others things I also have no right of an opinion now. I refere you to my holidays in the UK thread. No wonder I want out. lol
As for libel things others should read other forums where it could be construed that deflamatory things have been said about others. If they decided to sue on every aspect that people thought was libel, you would have to build another thousand courts to deal with it all.
To be honest am seriously thinking of not posting on here no more as if I am not allowed an opinion what is the point? dunno Also I think enough has been said on this subject from me anyway, so am going to tape my hands up so I cannot type anymore. sad

The whole point, which you have spectacularly missed in the heat of your flounce, is that there is a very distinct difference in your right to having your opinion and your right to publish it.
Just because you prefix it with "I believe" does not make it any less of an accusation.
Yes okay the chances of you actually being sued is minimal to non-existence, but that doesn't detract from the fact that you are breaking the law.
Frankly I don't really care if you do or you don't but the fact that you are blase about it relative to other comments you have made in other threads could lead others to surmise that you ebb and flow with the tide so's to speak.
