James Blunt - Cry
I have seen peace. I have seen pain,
Resting on the shoulders of your name.
Do you see the truth through all their lies?
Do you see the world through troubled eyes?
And if you want to talk about it anymore,
Lie here on the floor and cry on my shoulder,
I'm a friend.
I have seen birth. I have seen death.
Lived to see a lover's final breath.
Do you see my guilt? Should I feel fright?
Is the fire of hesitation burning bright?
And if you want to talk about it once again,
On you I depend. I'll cry on your shoulder.
You're a friend.
You and I have been through many things.
I'll hold on to your heart.
I wouldn't cry for anything,
But don't go tearing your life apart.
I have seen fear. I have seen faith.
Seen the look of anger on your face.
And if you want to talk about what will be,
Come and sit with me, and cry on my shoulder,
I'm a friend.
And if you want to talk about it anymore,
Lie here on the floor and cry on my shoulder,
I'm a friend.
kiss
Dunno. This 'James Blunt is a collosal sogwriting talent' boat left me on the shore. I hear his songs and I hear the love-lorn ramblings of an emotionally-callenged 14 year old who's been dumped by her boyfriend of 3 whole weeks.
But hey, if it floats your boat, who am I to knock it?
We're all the colours of the rainbow here! (Hmmm. I can feel a song coming on...).
dunno
I never liked James Blunt until recently, now there are a number of his tracks I really love.
One of them being........
"Goodbye My Lover"
Did I disappoint you or let you down?
Should I be feeling guilty or let the judges frown?
'Cause I saw the end before we'd begun,
Yes I saw you were blinded and I knew I had won.
So I took what's mine by eternal right.
Took your soul out into the night.
It may be over but it won't stop there,
I am here for you if you'd only care.
You touched my heart you touched my soul.
You changed my life and all my goals.
And love is blind and that I knew when,
My heart was blinded by you.
I've kissed your lips and held your head.
Shared your dreams and shared your bed.
I know you well, I know your smell.
I've been addicted to you.
Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.
I am a dreamer but when I wake,
You can't break my spirit - it's my dreams you take.
And as you move on, remember me,
Remember us and all we used to be
I've seen you cry, I've seen you smile.
I've watched you sleeping for a while.
I'd be the father of your child.
I'd spend a lifetime with you.
I know your fears and you know mine.
We've had our doubts but now we're fine,
And I love you, I swear that's true.
I cannot live without you.
Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.
And I still hold your hand in mine.
In mine when I'm asleep.
And I will bare my soul in time,
When I'm kneeling at your feet.
Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.
I'm so hollow, baby, I'm so hollow.
I'm so, I'm so, I'm so hollow.
James Blunt is a man who can rhyme words, yes, but a phenominal singer/songwriter? Doubtful.... the man sings with no conviction and his live performances lack passion and are reminiscent of poorly-done karaoke. He's a studio performer for depressed premenstrual women at best
His song lyrics, if analysed, are contradictory at the best of times, lame and repitious on the whole.
Unfortunately we live in a current muscial climate where, if someone can actually play an instrument, can write a song (with help from others) or can sing in (asemi) tune without a load of studio effects on their voice they are extolled as a massive muscial talent.
You want moving lyrics, phenominal writing and performances so soul-breaking with such realism and passion that you can't help but feel your soul cry when you hear them then look no further than Damien Rice, Turin Brakes, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Phil Collins, George Micheal and others who don't need chart popularity to ensure that they continue writing heart-felt songs about life and love.

By the way, anyone who even slightly agrees with me will LOVE the Chris Moyles remix (featuring jungle beats and ragga lyrics) of 'Goodbye My Lover' that he plays on his Radio One Breakfast Show (7-10) :P
Dawn,
i really agree with you on that song,
its a song that is very close to my heart right now.
music is great, its been a great way to let out my pain, joy, anger etc.

Music can express how you feel or say things that words just never could

"Ugly"
When I was 7
They said I was strange
I noticed that my eyes and hair weren't the same
I asked my parents if I was OK
They said you're more beautiful
And that's the way they show that they wish
They had your smile
So my confidence was up for a while
I got real comfortable with my own style
I knew that they were only jealous cos
People are all the same
And we only get judged by what we do
Personality reflects name
And if I'm ugly then
So are you
So are you
There was a time when I felt like I cared
That I was shorter than everyone there
People made me feel like life was unfair
And I did things that made me ashamed
Cos I didn't know my body would change
I grew taller than them in more ways
But there will always be the one who will say
Something bad to make them feel great
People are all the same
And we only get judged by what we do
Personality reflects name
And if I'm ugly then
So are you
So are you
People are all the same
And we only get judged by what we do
Personality reflects name
And if I'm ugly then
So are you
So are you
Everybody talks bad about somebody
And never realises how it affects somebody
And you bet it won't be forgotten
Envy is the only thing it could be
Cos people are all the same
(The same, the same)
And we only get judged by what we do
(What we do, yeah, yeah)
Personality reflects name
And if I'm ugly then
(Yeah, you)
So are you
So are you
People are all the same
(Oh, oh, oh)
And we only get judged by what we do
(What we do, yeah)
Personality reflects name
And if I'm ugly then
(Yeah, so are you)
So are you
So are you
In the station, in the City, A British Soldier stood
Talking to the people there, If the people would
Some just stared in hatred, And others turned in pain
And the lonely British Soldier wished he was back home again
Come join the British Army, Said the posters in his town
See the World and have your fun, Come serve before the Crown
The jobs were hard to come by, And he could not face the dole
So he took his Countries Shilling, And enlisted on the roll
But, there was no fear of fighting, The Empire was long was lost
Just ten years in the Army, Getting paid for being bossed
Then leave a man experienced, A man whose made the grade
A medal and a pension, Some men present a trade
Then came the call to Ireland, As the call had come before
Another bloody chapter, In an endless civil war
The Priests they stood on both sides, The Priests they stood behind
Another fight in Jesus name, The blind against the blind
The Soldier stood between them, Between the whistling stones
And then the broken bottles, That lead to broken bones
The petrol bombs that burned his hands, The nails that pierced his skin
And wished that he’d stayed at home, Surrounded by his kin
The station filled with people, The soldier was soon was bored
But, better in the station, Than where the people warred
The room filled up with Mothers, With daughters and with sons
Who stared with itchy fingers, At the soldier and his guns
A yell of fear, The screech of brakes, A shattering of glass
The window of the station, Broke to let the package pass
A scream came from the Mothers
As they ran towards the door, Dragging children crying
From the bomb upon the floor, The soldier stood
And could not move, His gun he could not use
He knew the bomb had seconds and not minutes on the fuse
He could not run to pick it up, And throw it in the street
There were far too many people there, Too many running feet
“Take cover” yelled the soldier, “Take cover” for your lives
And the Irishmen threw down their young, And stood before their wives
They turned towards the Soldier, Their eyes alive with fear
For God’s sake save our children, or their end their short lives here
The Soldier moved towards the bomb, his stomach like a stone
Why? Was this his Battle God, Why was he alone?
He lay down on the package, and he murmured one farewell
To those at home in England, to those he loved so well
He saw the sights of summer, felt the wind upon his brow
The young girls in the city parks, how precious were they now
The soaring of the Swallow, the beauty of the Swan
The music of the turning Earths, so soon would it be gone
A muffled soft explosion, and the room began to quake
The Soldier blown across the floor, His blood a crimson lake
They never heard Him cry or shout, they never heard Him moan
And they turned their children’s faces from the blood and from the bone
The crowd outside soon gathered, and the Ambulances came
To carry off the body of a pawn lost in a game
And the crowd they clapped and jeered and they sang their rebel songs
One Soldier less to interfere where he did not belong
But will the children growing up learn at their mother’s knee
The story of the Soldier who bought their liberty
Who used his youthful body, as the means towards the end
Who gave His life to those who called Him murderer not friend......
I quite like the sugababes as they aren't your typical girl-group and their songs are usually qiute catchy, but they are dead when live too - no passion or fire on stage at all!
I'd put some song lyrics on here too... but can't be bothered.. lol... suppose I should do so rather than just giving my opinion and not backing it up!
Damien Rice - 'I Remember' (and if you can get a copy of him doing this live isten to it - if you don't feel anything then you're dead!)
"I Remember"
I remember it well
The first time that I saw
Your head around the door
'Cause mine stopped working
I remember it well
There was wet in your hair
I was stood in the stairs
And time stopped moving
I want you here tonight
I want you here
'Cause I can't believe what I found
I want you here tonight
I want you here
Nothing is taking me down, down, down...
I remember it well
Taxied out of a storm
To watch you perform
And my ships were sailing
I remember it well
I was stood in your line
And your mouth, your mouth, your mouth...
I want you here tonight
I want you here
'Cause I can't believe what I found
I want you here tonight
I want you here
Nothing is taking me down, down, down...
Except you my love. Except you my love...
Come all ye lost
Dive into moss
I hope that my sanity covers the cost
To remove the stain of my love
Paper maché
Come all ye reborn
Blow off my horn
I'm driving real hard
This is love, this is porn
God will forgive me
But I, I whip myself with scorn, scorn
I wanna hear what you have to say about me
Hear if you're gonna live without me
I wanna hear what you want
I remember december
And I wanna hear what you have to say about me
Hear if you're gonna live without me
I wanna hear what you want
What the hell do you want?

Sugababes
Stronger
I'll make it through the rainy days
I'll be the one who stands here longer than the rest
When my landscape changes, re-arranges
I'll be stronger than I've ever been
No more stillness, more sunlight
Everything's gonna be all right
I know that there's gonna be a change
Better find your way out of your fear
If you wanna come with me
Then that's the way it's gotta be
I'm all alone
And finally I'm getting stronger
You'll come to see
Just what I can be
I'm getting stronger
Sometimes I feel so down and out
Like emotion that's been captured in a maze
I had my ups and downs
Trials and tribulations
I overcome it day by day
Feeling good and almost powerful
A new me, that's what I'm looking for
I know that there's gonna be a change
Better find your way out of your fear
If you wanna come with me
Then that's the way it's gotta be
I'm all alone
And finally I'm getting stronger
You'll come to see
Just what I can be
I'm getting stronger
I didn't know what I had to do
I just knew I was alone
People around me but they didn't care
So I searched into my soul
I'm not the type of girl that will let them see her cry
It's not my style
I get by
See I'm gonna do this for me
I'm all alone
And finally I'm getting stronger
You'll come to see
Just what I can be
I'm getting stronger

Marilyn Manson ROCKS the most - he does give it his all and exhibits massive passion, I totally agree with you there! Muse are bloody good too!

His live performances are full of soul and conviction. Which ones were you at?
Surely it all comes down to personal taste. I’m sure there are many that would say that Phil Collins sings more from the wallet than the heart, but as you like him, I feel that it is your prerogative to like him.
Like others, you are just falling into the trap of jumping onto the ‘James blunt backlash bandwagon’. As soon as someone is a success in this country, when they become popular you suddenly get a few who can't stand it and have to push them back down again. I suppose I can’t stand music snobbery, just because something becomes popular, doesn’t automatically mean that it is rubbish.
As for the phrase 'depressed premenstrual women' rolleyes oh dear, nice way to make friends :P
“Damien Rice, Turin Brakes, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Phil Collins, George Micheal and others who don't need chart popularity to ensure that they continue writing heart-felt songs about life and love” erm come again??? Most of these guys are multi-millionaires from their chart popularity. LOL! lol
I totally agree with you that it comes down to personal taste. If we were all the same then life would be boring!

Hmmm.. patronisation and assumptions here from you..both of which are ill founded and rather insulting, but your choice. I was voicing my opinion hun, founded on quite a lot of musical knowledge and experience. I asked no one to agree with me nor did I say that people who liked James Blunt were wrong.
I am NOT being a music snob (or jumping an any kind of bandwagon - I haven't liked him from the beginning of his career) just beacuse I don't like his music, and that is a lame argument, proving that you can't give me a reason as to why I should like or appreciate his 'talents'. I also don't see how my opinion will 'push him back down again' - I doubt me not buying his album will stop most of the music buyers out there doing so.
I never actually said that I liked Phil Collins either - it was an example to illustrate a successful, talented and passionate songwriter and performer. I actually find his music a little dry for my tastes, but it showed my point rather nicely.
It's a shame that you used this an a bit of an attack and a telling off rather than trying to engage in a disscussion of songwriting talent/muscial ability of different artists, but that is your perogitive (and it also suggests that maybe you can't back up the opinion that James Blunt is such a good musician after all  )
Ho hum. Good that not everyone feels the same way about things though - the world would be damn dull if we did
Layla
by the way, I used those 'famous' artists as an example of people who hadn't endured current chart success for quite a while as if I listed people that no one had heard of it wouldn't really have made much of an impact on here as no one would know who I was talking about! Good thing to pick up on though - really proved your point rolleyes
Anyway, wishing you well again biggrin

Did I tell anyone NOT to listen to James Blunt because *I* think that he is talentless and trite?
NO
But just look at the bits of my post that you want to read, ignore the other bits and be insulted... thats a good idea
Perhaps I *shouldn't* have said that thing about premenstrual women (but as one myself I reserve the right to comment on behaviours of them lol) but still... there's an over reaction and then there is this...

Who gave His life to those who called Him murderer not friend......

..................those of us over here who have a brain have nothing but respect for the huge sacrifices made on our behalf by those just doing a job.........RESPECT!
I recognise the lyric but what was the song and who sang it??
