'olden days' films as they call them
films i loved as a kid/teen....last week it was Convoy (one of my all time faves....mmmmmmm Kris Kristoferson) then we had to go through the film explaining all the cb jargon!
Then Every Which Way but Loose and Every Which Way you Can with a very young and buff Clint Eastwood and of course Clyde the orang utan :thrilled:
They were hooked...other classics i have converted them to are Blues Brothers, the Back to The Future Trilogy, Ferris Buellers day off, Smokey and the Bandit and The Cannonball Run....
they seem to enjoy these more, and i think they stand the test of time more than todays light popcorn candy floss fluff like HSM, camp rock and so on.
Hve you converted any of yours onto your fave classics and had success??
When my two were younger they used to sit glued to Some Mothers Do Av Em and Carry On films....
Olden day films for me are things like Kind Hearts and Coronets or Passport to Pimlico ffs.
I should go now - it must be time for my cocoa. Nurse will be round soon with the senna and hot water bottle.
:slumpsinto_oldage:
Back to topic - my son (22) is rediscovering his childhood films and there is not much to beat Aristocats or Bedknobs and Broomsticks. But Who Framed Roger Rabbit is always popular.
Smokey and the Bandit... loved that film at the time!
I got my daughter watching the Bill and Ted films, Drop Dead Fred (anyone else remember that one?) and Beetlejuice! She loves them all almost as much as Hairy Potter. ;-)
ooohhh yeah Bill and Ted ...two more they love!!
never thought of the carry On films tho...was brought up on those!
Erm...
The Rocky Horror Picture show redface
Labyrinth (having a "thing" for Bowie in those tight tights has spanned generations lol )
Ghostbusters
Fawlty Towers
Alien
Childs Play
Poltergeist
Erm...and for balance...The Waltons- not
My youngest has always been a fan of The Breakfast Club and Ghostbusters and he sat watching Monty Python's Holy Grail with me the other week and and almost pissed his pants laughing rotflmao

Mine likes Ghostbusters too, but I forgot about Labyrinth! I think a trip to Bollockbusters is on the cards! ;-)
I don't have any kids, but if I did I'd show them the original St Trinians films (I haven't seen the new one and I very much doubt I ever will rolleyes ), plus a lot of the ones mentioned above biggrin

I must admit I wasn't going to watch the new version (especially since the Brand person was in it :rollsmile but my daughter was watching it on $ky so I caught some of it. Turns out it was really quite good, and fairly true to the original. Even the Brand person was slightly comical.
I did think I might try to get some of the old Alistair Sim/George Cole versions for her to watch though. Could be another winner.
George Cole is the ONLY Flash Harry lol
I try with my 5 year old daughter with mixed results. On the film front I do ok but on the TV progs front not so well.
She is well into the Karate kid films biggrin and Flight of the navigator, Labyrinth, The Wizard of Oz (its like her fave thing ever) plus Return to Oz and various other versions. Must get her Tinman on DVD at some point, maybe Xmas  Also likes Bill and Ted
She use to watch Button moon and Camberwick green when smaller but I have failed to convert her to Bagpuss and Chorlton n the wheelies.
I do like to tease her with youtube and show her opening themes to prgraammes Daddy watched when he was little :smug: I find its best to get her excited then introduce her to the series. Personnlay I would feel accomplished if I could get her to sit through.
The Box of delights
Chocky
Knightmare
Quincey's quest (Not the Dr thing but a TV kids thing starring Tommy steel as a broken toy whos about to get burnt in the fire and must locate Father Christmas to be rescued) Anyone remember this? Not been aired since the 70's but you can watch the whole thing in bits on youtube.
We spent a lovely few hours sunday afternoon watching the wizard of oz and the aristocats.
Amazing how enraptured two modern teenagers can be by the simple old fashioned story telling.
