Queen....met em before they were really famous...got the autographs and the photos...brilliant band back then 1974...seen them since...always great! One of the first bands to put on a good show! Mind you, would loved to have seen Alice Cooper in the early 70s, another great live act! Bowie in the Ziggy/Aladin Sane era...missed that one!

Radiohead put on some of the best performances and this was encapsulated in their Glastonbury 2003 Micheal Eavis said that it was the best he'd ever seen.
REM,used to be fantastic live,I saw them in '95 on the Monster tour and they were amazing.
I think for sheer brillience though the greatest in my opinion is Underworld, never the same show, always putting in little changes and this was shown in the Everything Everything DVD,which is possibly the greatest music DVD really shows that they are massively better live than in the studio, which for a dance band is generally unheard of.

Never saw Queen live ..its one of my biggest regrets .. the chance is gone forever RIP the late great Freddie, although they are the only band to have had no 1 hits written by each of the 4 members so it was by no means all Freddie. I recall their live aid concert when the other artistes all said ..."how can you follow that?"
You could feel the atmosphere positively pouring out of the TV that day

Steve got there first,as usual, but for me without a doubt Radiohead at Glastonbury last year was phenomenal, that simple cool

Genesis at their best were great live. Also saw Bowie who I loved live. Would have loved to have seen Alice Cooper as well LC!!!! Went to see Peter Gabriel who was brilliant and really was the first to use multimedia on stage - just brill. For a great night out though you cant beat Jules Holland and his band imho.

Used to go to so many gigs, really miss during the Budakhan tour was just like watching your life being played out on iIthink the best live performer is Springsteen,he just enjoys himself as much as the audience and the musicianship is awesome.
Worst was Bryan a ticket, played 50 minutes and walked off.

Went to Donington 94, which was pretty good.. glad I got to see one of the big names live (Aerosmith) although to be honest, it was more worth it for Biohazard enticing everyone onto the stage, oh and everyone chucking bottles of wee at Extreme.
My first gig, and nearly the best was Billy Bragg.. but didn't beat seeing a band called Clawfinger at our local rock club. Just something about being 2 feet away from the band getting everyone rocking made you feel like you were part of it. Cost me 4 quid to get in and was the best gig I've ever been to.

My favourite gig has to be Stiff Little Fingers at the Brixton Academy in '91. I queued all afternoon so I could be right at the front of the stage, opposite the lead singer (Jake Burns). I couldn't do much dancing though. The place was heaving and I was jammed up against the iron barrier. The atmosphere in that place was electric, the music so loud and so full of attitude.

I saw James Brown recently in Glasgow. The show was very well rehearsed but amazing none the less. And I get to say that I saw the Godfather of Soul live !
Also saw the Eagles a few years back - the hairs on the back of my nexk were standing up with Hotel California. If yu like them, look for the 'Where Hell Freezes Over' DVD.
Only problem with re-born bands is that they seem to think they can charge £40 upwards for a ticket....! A bit steep if you ask me. banghead

(Cringe factor is about 10)
Cliff Richard, called in a few favours and got almost front row seats......... I hate Cliff Richard............ but I have to say the show was fantastic...... the band, the lights, the FX, the whole thing was fantastic, (apart from the music)

My 2 top favourites are (obviously) the Robmeister himself - the swoon factor alone will keep me going to see him cool 8-)
And have now seen Coldplay twice. Excellent live band whether in Brixton Academy or the MEN Arena. Two totally different venues but they were brilliant each time

well . . . .
i saw The Verve play to about 50 people before they'd even put their first album out. and they blew the place to pieces. they had to walk through the crowd to jump onto a stage 2 feet high! was a damn good gig.
think my fav though has to be Throwing Muses back in about 91/92. i was just mesmerised by Kristen Hersch and Tanya Donnelly and the sound they had live.

Music is totally subjective and personal, one mans meat is another mans poison. So with that disclaimer I have to say that the best live act I ever saw (3 times in total) was Earth, Wind and Fire biggrin Saw them first in 1982 at the height of their general popularity. Mind Blowing, thats all I can say. Consumate musicians, fantastic vocals and a mega stage show. Todays so-called talent wouldn't be comfortable, even in the shade redface
Me and Mrs CCR also saw Simply Red a few times. Fantastic. In my view a close 2nd to EWF.
See you at the Notts Munch smile

I think it would have to be James in Leeds. Saw them in Virgin records before the gig - Timmy Booth standing on a table miming into a banana biggrin Then they played at the University - fookin excellent.
Not a big fan of stadium gigs though have been to many - I'd have to say the best nights are the small intimate gigs. For me the most fun band to see live is always The Saw Doctors.
PS LB nice to see the sun shining on you

Blondie since they reformed. Non-stop from coming on stage to the last encore...no talking between numbers. And Debbie can still strut her stuff lol
Runrig are superb live too.

Saw Squeeze 4 times (slightly different line-ups each time), the thing that stood out compaired to other bands I have seen was the sence of fun, the band seemed to be having such a good time on stage. That sence of fun was transmitted to the audience making the gig and enjoyable and memorable time.

can you remember BOW WOW WOW was a great gig I went to, really just before they got famous I guess...it was in a school hall in Nottingham......great night but the reason it was the best was coz I got off with Annabella ...the lead singer.....oh memories memories !!!!!

But did you go wild, go wild, go wild in the cuntry?
To my lasting shame the best live act I have seen was Micheal Jackson at Wembley back in mid 80's (I think). Only bought the tickets to impress my then girlfriend, but the sheer showmanship of himself and his backing group was phenomenal. Not a note or a foot put wrong.
Shame that the boy wanted to be Peter Pan but turned out to be Icarus.
The support act was Kate Wilde, so that might give an idea of the era.

Steve, I saw them on the 95 monster tour too! Also saw them on their "up" tour which was such a buzz. Saw them last summer and they still put on a fantastic show. That has to be my favourite one of all time because it was essentially to promote thier greatest hits album so all the old faves were played.
Top 5 gigs have to be:
1. R.E.M
2. Kylie
3. Robbie
4. Aerosmith
5. Steps redface
I was very impressed by The Hives live performance. They had a lot of energy and showman ship on stage which some artists don't have. Their music is a bit the same after a few songs as they follow a very similar format, which let them down a little.
We were both won over by morrisey after seeing him play live. The Royal Danish Opera singing at a rock festival on the same stage which had been played by Massive Attack, Bjork, Avril Lavigne etc.... It was an awsome atmosphere and one so unique. biggrin
Have to say though, I saw "The Boss" last summer, I think it was..... at LCCC, and people said he was awful. Fans who have liked him for years were complaining about the gig and how poor it was. Being a non-brucer I couldn't really say I liked it much.... but I was only working there.....

You know what? I reckon all live music is great - I've seen some great and some terrible bands in my time and enjoyed every single one of them - even Beki and the Bombshells (actually the Macc Lads were a real low point).
There's just something about music played live - its so immediate, spontaneous and enveloping. Having said that I'm going with the crowd partially here - Queen were breathtaking, Roy Harper, fantastic cos it was like sitting in his living room having a conversation and an old but good band who are still doing it as well as they ever did, AC/DC.
I've seen most of the bands I wanted to as a youngster but I really regret never seeing Led Zeppelin - I was a bit young when they did their last tour.
I had a great 'isn't life wonderful' moment recently when I took my 10 year old son to his guitar lesson and we were both singing along to Stairway - man, have I started him off on the right wrong path lol

You are soooo right S.A.
Live music is a great thing, even when they are terrible.
I think Swan Lee was the worst I've seen recently.... I sat down while waiting for the next band to come on. Lacked energy and didn't capture the crowd at all.

Absolutely amazing.....Close your eyes and you would think you were listening to a cd the singing was so good..
