Better Site...or Not...?

Hi,
In my humble opinion...since the New owners acquired this site...the options and functonality at ones finger tips has improved 100%. In fact...I'm tempted to pay for the extras on offer..!!...nothing new there then.. :twisted:
However........enough time has elapsed and..correct me if I'm wrong..(some fecker will..!!) this site remains free for the functionality one had when Mark was the owner?
It was inevitable that improvements would reap rewards...here here.. ( we all like to do business no matter what that may be..!!!!!) .........so..congrats to the SH Team...well done...x

Despite having a few whinges whilst the site was going through a transitional stage, I have to say that in general it has improved enormously.
I'm still not sure if the 'extras' package is worth the dosh though, it doesnt actually offer a lot that I need or want, but thats just me, it seems its good for many out there.
Personally, as a pre 'change - over' member, I'll wait and see what happens to the free membership come the appointed date. We still dont know whats going to happen (or do we and I missed it?)
The only thing I would love to see is an 'Ignore this member' button for the chat rooms, it would save having to find a Mod every time the pratty element kicked off.

I agree that its misleading to claim that this is a free site, and I think that is something the site owners should cease to claim on the home page

Technically it is still a "free" site in that its free to join ! But in line with other sites the charge comes with "premium" membership and access to extras, like chat,ads etc etc.
I feel I am lucky in joining when these "extras" were free, but in all fairness its rather good that the new owners have honoured that. In retrospect however if I was running the site it would occur to me to simply close it, So thanks to Mark for bothering to do a deal and thanks to the new owners for keeping that promise.

When Mark owned the site that was the policy and was only changed when he sold the site. Remember Freeserve? That changed hands and became a pay service - life moves on and so does this site. We used to send small children up chimneys - we don't now. Move on. Live with it and enjoy it.
Some opinions don't change, just some people manage to keep a check on their mouths.

Okay, OP hat off for a moment and posting MY thoughts, as I normally always do on the forum, as a straightforward member.
And please donâ€™t see this as any kind of explanation to you de Sade â€˜cause I neither know you nor care how you feel about my opinions, as the educated poster you come across as here Iâ€™m sure youâ€™ll take that comment for what it is. wink

I, like I would hazard a guess, almost ALL the regular contributors at the time of your question, would have given you the same answer as exhibited in your link.
As it was at that time, Mark, the site owner, told us HE would never charge for the facility. To that extent he was true to his wordâ€¦..he never did.
The site was then purchased and we saw the split it caused.
Many said they would never pay, many moved on, many just waited to see, and some expressed their concerns in a forthright manner.
It was their right to do so although if my memory serves of the relevant time few of them, if any, appear on your linked post.
THAT was their prerogative, some have changed their minds having seen the way the site has gone, some
â€¦..Donâ€™t see it myself but each to their own eh?

Had you posed the question AFTERthe take over then perhaps resurrecting the post would have had some legitimacy. As Jags has said, some people waited to see how things developed before they commented, some didnâ€™t. Human nature doesnâ€™t like change thatâ€™s for sure.

Nothing personal Laird, I think it is important that someone with principles can be free to air them without fear of intimidation, or reprisal (I won't use the words victimisation or discrimination as these words now have rather loaded connotations). It's part of a process we call democracy. You sound like a man of principles, though I have never met you either, but I am sure as a humanitarian you wouldn't decry another of their principles just because they differed from yours would you?
I've said it before let's leave the clique-driven politics back in the 1930's where they belong.

You are of course entitled to your opinions. I have been a member here for longer than the date would suggest and whilst I may op the chat room I have NO authority in the forums therefore I post here as an ordinary member, not as a spokesperson for the site.
If I have a problem with the site, like yourself I will voice my feelings also and indeed have done in the past.
My reply was directly to your post, I did not say your opinions where invalid, far from it, I did say that IMHO the "question" was invalid owing to when it was asked, thats all, nothing more nothing less.

Like I said, there are better threads that give a rounded view, both positive and negative should you wish to highlight those for the new members.

To bring this back to a more light hearted thread..........................
Just a quick note to say that when the site changed hands, I have to admit that I was one of those who abandoned ship for a while. However, having come back and seen the alterations and the new chat room, I think it is a much better site now (especially the chatroom :shock: ). So, well done to the new owners and a very big worship

to all of the mods and chat room ops who have to try and keep us all in check lol

Just a small point I suppose but the inferrence is most definately there that the hypocrosy was commited by those people who featured in your quoted thread. Now I may have picked up on that wrong but it sure doesn't feel like it and I did read and re read the post you made several times.

in fact based on the strength of your feeling in the ORIGINAL thread (& PoloLady's response) I was going to add a more demonstrative option just for the benefit of members like you who felt so strongly that it had to stay a free site, but the thread was locked before I had the opportunity.

I was unaware the post was locked, I am also all to well aware of how these things were dealt with at the time of the changeover / buy out. Personally I didn't agree with a lot of the way things were dealt with so I know where you are coming from.

You must remember in the ORIGINAL thread I was not advocating a PAYG site, I was simply asking a question why could it not be a PAYG site and would it make SH better. Instead of the educated debate I expected on the subject I suddenly become "he who dares to rock the boat", am made to feel ridiculous for daring to ask the question and the thread is locked.

The point I was trying to make was that the question was asked at a time when we were all positive such a thing would never happen, hence the response from most. You would also be aware that there where many threads that appeared on a regular basis about the same thing and it was all quite boring (I dont mean that to sound in anyway derogatory to yourself, just how a lot of that type of post was seen by the members at the time)

All change now. Now it is a PAYG site and now threads that "dare rock the boat" again by questioning if SH is better now or when it was a free site are locked almost immediately and the thread originator ridiculed or at best made to feel a twat for having the balls to ask the question "just what exactly is going on in SH Towers..?"

I'm sure that your strength of character, if I've picked you up right during your posting on here, is waaaayy above being made to feel a twat 'cause people dont agree with you de Sade

Oh Jags - you REALLY should go and take a look!! The old chatroom was just a nightmare, too fast, not being able to keep up with you own conversation let alone seeing what others were chatting about, but the new one is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!
The chat room ops do a great job too and, in the short time I have been using the chatroom, have always been there to keep an eye on everything and ensure that we're all behaving ourselves lol

Nooooooooooooooooooo - was only in the old one a couple of times and ran off! From what I hear about the ones I don't think I need to go in them. I'm happy pottering out here in the garden of SH where all is fresh and lovely and friendly... wink

Don't get me wrong, I love the forums but I suppose I'm being just like a kid in a sweet shop at the mo where the chatroom's concerned lol

To be honest, we were struggling finding exactly what we were looking for, but I think the chatroom might just make our dreams come true :twisted: :twisted:
