Cor blimey! Bird food is cheap where you live (pretending I'm not old enough to remember those immortal words ;-) )
We spend around £30 a month on various food stuffs for birds, mealworms, dried insect mix, seeds of various kinds (they especially like Thistle seeds), peanuts and peanut cake, cheap sponge cakes from Asda crumbled up (no icing), cooked beef mince, grated mild cheese, dried raisins and sultanas (soak them overnight in a little water) as well as a few table scraps.
So despite having four cats, we get many different varieties of birds in our garden all year round. They are wonderful to watch and it gives a nice warm glow to know you're helping them through the year, especially during the colder months biggrin

If ya have one of them frank bruno lean mean grilling machine type things take the hot fat out of the drain tray and pour it in a yogurt pot, chuck in a few nuts......let it cool down remove from the pot and hang out in the garden for the birdies to eat...............jobs a good un biggrin
We still have a few apples hanging on the tree. Amazing watching the blackbirds pecking like hell at them and they (the apples) don't seem to fall off.

I've got a lovely pair of tits in my garden but they won't touch my seed balls. Has anybody got any suggestions how I can tempt the lovely birds to take a mouthful and swallow?

gosh yes... my mistake.... make sure that you use a rusty nail too.. as it will have already gone through the oxidising process, the birdies won't get poisoned.

I've done what you suggested and my eyes are watering with pleasure as a plump breasted beauty is gorging herself on my fat balls.
The joys of nature smile
FB wanders off to an ornithology site to tell all the twitchers about swinging.
