A free for all thread for bitching. I`ll try to keep the cursing to a bare minimum as I`m not sure how much free range we have here............but
SH*T SH*T F*CK BOL-- LOCKING WANKER SH*T BAG LITTLE TWATS WHO CREATE VIRUSES SHOULD BE MADE TO EAT THEIR OWN EYEBALLS!!
I just spent the last god knows how long trying to clean a virus off the PC, I had to shut off RPC so my PC didn`t keep shutting down, even though that function is there to protect the PC before the virus damages it too much, only to find out that said virus corrupts the Virus update download for AVG, so I spent another god knows how long finding online scanners which didn`t detect said virus, then spent god knows how long downloading every free programme I could off of only to find out the majority of the programmes only told me what I already knew, but would only remove said virus if I bought their programme...........

Venus - sorry to hear abt this - but also curious:
any idea where the virus came from? was it a file you opened from an e-mail? a web site download? any ideas.? Just curious. I run my own small biz and i'm paranoic abt this happening to me.
I run Norton AntiVirus 2003.

Ah.....this is where the sympathy flies out of the window....
I am not a wealthy woman, I use P2P file sharing for software I can`t afford. AVG was supposed to be set up to alert me as soon as a dodgy file was downloaded......
I didn`t allow for the fact that the very disk I burnt for Windows XP was dodgy! Primarily because the same disk seemed to work ok with my other PC. confused

Ah well, you live and learn........

still have sympathy venusnmars, its just even more underhand i think by ppl buggering up your pc when you belive their doing you a favour.
used to use kazzar ( dont know if thats spelt correct) but got paranoid so wiped it off pc.

Have even more sympathy, the original reason I had to reformat, with the dodgy disk, was because I downloaded a dodgy spell check programme for Mars, so he could play on here more with you guys :rose: biggrin

If you are using the Free AVG there are a few things you need to know.
1. Their update servers are currently running very slowly and frequently time out. You may need to do your updates manually and it may take you a few goes before you connect.
2. Change the default check for updates from 14 days to 1 day.
3. Switch on Heuristics (its switched off by default mad

)
4. Change the time of the Auto Updates to when you are usually using the Internet in the evening. AVGs Update Servers are less busy after 8pm and you can virtually guarantee a connection after
Whatever you do, do your updates daily
All the above settings can be changed in options (double click on the AVG icon in the System Tray).

I have to agree with ManAlive on this one :smitten:
Wishing you luck in your rebuilding, and totally agree with you on virus writers... All very clever yes, but prefer good use of those skills like the wonderful Mark who gave us SH, or John with the Avitar resizer and offers of help.
Still apparently when virus writers find a girlfriend they tend to grow up... Hasn't stopped me having to spend many days repairing corporate systems or friends computers though.

Thanks, but I *think I`m protected OK from Viruses at least. Now I`m working on Adware and spyware.
Current set up is-
Zone alarm firewall
AVG Virus checker
Ace Utilities clean up programme (cleans junk files, registry etc)
Spybot search and destroy
Win Patrol (this ones good, gave me the heads up on a couple of parasite programmes downloaded with Hotbar, then gave me the option to remove them)
Safe guard popup blocker pro
F-prot anti-virus
I want to schedule all these to run before the PC shuts down, or maybe on start up, but my Task schedular is out of whack. I has to restart my RPC, then it told me that the Task manager needed to be switched on, so I did that, then it told me something else wasn`t on, but that last one went way over my head, so I`ve hit a brick wall.
AND I`M STILL GETTING POP-UPS!! mad

I know what it is, it`s `Hotbar`, it was riddled with spyware, all but one of which I was able to remove, the other `was in use`. I don`t want to lose Hotbar, it`s great for the kids. I`ll have to remove it when the programme is not in use, and hope the programme still works........
Or find a better pop up blocker.
One Pop-up blocker I used wouldn`t let me open mulitple IE windows at first, and when I allowed one, it allowed them all! confused

There is only one kind of `pop up` I like, and it`s strictly organic :twisted:

So I`d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the wonderful people here for making me feel welcome, and for putting a smile on my face each time I log in. It`s been nice knowng you all. :sad:
If anyone would like to make my final hours as pleasurable as possible it would be much appreciated. Please be quick, for I don`t believe necrophillia is an acceptable pasttime on this site.

Through the day..........I made it through the day. I slept for about 6 hours, tried to log in here only to find the PC had died again! Another three hours of buggering about (wrapped up in a kingsized duvet) I`m back. Yaaaay!
Still feel like crud. Ah well, crud with a smile biggrin

Cant help muc but can tell you from our experiences that Symantec knowledge base has lots of great step by step instructions for removing those nastier awkward little fuckers by hand from your registry ( top tip print the step by step out in full before begging and read it from old fashioned paper) .
As for the pop ups , the ones that are penetrating your anti pop up software are probably ensconced on your hard drive somewhere ( in fact some of the downloadable pop up stoppers have such crap built into them ! ) We had a few that Spy Bot didnt see , it seems that spy bot rarely has updates these days , we used to use it always , but he hasnt updated his patterns for a long while ( cant really complain i guess the guy has a real job to do as well) so we use that AND an excellent programme called " Adaware " which has spotted all the ones Spy Bot misses . Hope were a little help anyways .

Thanks, when I feel a little brighter I`ll take some of it on board! I think I`ve downloaded too may programmes to fix problems, so now I have confilcts!
Hopefully this wont be a problem when I save up for a laptop I can take to bed with me! lol
