Went to see Bjork in Blackpool on got some of her albums but wasnt too sure what to expect at the of the songs she did- like Declare Independance and Earth Intruders had the place bouncing.
But whenever i mentioned to my friends that i was going to see her nearly all of them said WHY?
Dont you think certain artists like her and the likes of Morrissey bring these reactions from people?
Because they're not boring middle of the road artists, they're one offs. Good music like all good art should polarise opinions. If people don't much mind something why bother creating it?

 Couldn't have said it better myself!

Dunno... I know someone who refers to his penchant for porn as his interest in 'the arts' lol so your avatar would seem appropriately arty in that case!! wink
wanking as perfomance art - discuss.
So how do you HANDle a wanking debate? lol

Two at once then wink lol
You could produce some jackson pollock type "spatter" effects I suppose....sounds fairly artistic. Not sure I'd want to have one in my house though

And wasn't it Adrian Mole (okay, fictional character I know, but anyway) who said "We intellectuals are allowed to be interested in sex".
And I agree with your sentiments about Björk, Northern, I was just worried that she was dead when I saw your topic heading.
Shes far from dead after the gig i watched!
Also the gig was in the Empress Ballroom in Winter Gardens. I,d never been there before but it was an ideal place for a gig.

This is because most people have no taste. But you can't put any store in what the public think - those bastards like the fucking Wombats for Christ's sake.
Bjork is probably one of no more than about five actual geniuses performing in mainstream pop music at the moment. I'd love to have seen her - did you enjoy it?
Wow so pleased , was expecting this to be a Bjork bashing thread!
She is so rare in that she has made music that really owes little or nothing to anything else around it or before it.
People have to look past the prejudice against her in the media and then they'll find some hauntingly beautiful music by an artist who takes risks that nearly always come off, which is quite a feat in these X Factor/Cowell times.
I'd love to see Bjork live, she is thought-provoking and different in a bland musical world:-)
Morrissey, while also being thought-provoking and different, would require me to have a course of anti-depressants before I'd risk seeing him live. The guy makes Leonard Cohen sound cheerful!
Tomu- the gig was great-there were bits in it which appeared to be a bit self indulgent, then bits which were absolutely barnstorming! My friend came with me and when we came out he said "I,ll defo see Bjork in a different light now!"
Unc-the thing about Morrissey/The Smiths lyrics is that you have to LISTEN to them properly. He read a lot of Oscar Wilde when he was growing up and you can hear that in the lyrics. Last night i dreamt somebody loved me by The Smiths is a near tearjerker if you listen to it. Also Yes i am blind by Morrissey is an absolute beaut of a track.
I,m not preaching here but it riles me when people slag Morrissey off without listening to the lyrics. Theres tracks i dont like but thats the way it is. When hes gone you,ll realise how good he was!!!
"That sermon tonight was read out by Wmi"!!!! lol

couldn't agree more, but I'm off to see her in Sheffield in a couple of hours.
P.s. I doubt we'd agree on the other four though

The wombats...how I hate them. Their opening of the capital of culture celebrations was profoundly depressing.
Could of been worse-could of been The Wombles confused

Sorry to hear that - that's bad luck.
In Blackpool she said she was suffering from a cold but give it her best shot!
